I'm making a really cheap mostly 2nd hand PC. I have 2 sticks of RAM, one is a 4GB stick @1333MHz, the other on is an Patriot Signature 8GB stick @1600MHz

Is it possible to make them work? I'm pretty sure that they have to be the same clock speed, but I'm just making sure, as I can't over or underclock them I don't think.

I have a Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H motherboard and an i5-3570

Install the 1333Mhz stick in your board's primary DIMM slot(that would be slot A1). Install the 1600Mhz stick in slot A2 for dual channel, and both will run at 1333Mhz.

 

You should be able to overclock both to 1600 at the very least, pretty much every board that has a UEFI will let you screw with the memory settings.

It will work if they are the same type of RAM - for instance, you can't mix DDR3 & DDR4. If they are both DDR3, Crunchy Dragon's post is accurate.
