Wait for Navi, or get Vega/RTX?

Jon Jon

I am curious as to what you guys think.

With the cheap Vega deals ($300 USD) floating around, it is tempting to upgrade.

However, do we know enough about Navi to wait?

Well we can pretty much guarantee Navi will reach Vega 56 levels at least, probably more likely to reach gtx 1080/vega 64/2070 levels.

But the vega 56 deals are unbelievable. If you can wait, then wait. But if you don't want to wait, there's nothing wrong with buying a 56 pulse (The pulse tends to be the non-blower card around 300 at the moment)

We know nothing about Navi, only rumors. But it's very likely so close, worth the wait just because of the time span left.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

For 300 that is a good price.

If Navi is announced in july, you probably can get it by the end of the year.

I don't know if i can hold that money for long.

Navi will be announced by the end of the month and should be available in July or so. Now all we know for sure is that it won't match the performance of the Radeon VII or that would cannibalize their sales, so we can expect Vega performance for less money and hopefully more power efficiency. Based on this reasoning,I bought a Vega 56 this week for €240 and got 2 free games. I think if you can find a good deal, go for it.

Vega is likely to keep going down as Navi keeps going. May as well wait!

I will say though that this listing does have me getting a little sweaty ;)

If it wasn't for the fact that the Gigabyte model reviews so poorly, I'd be curious. It seems like the Red Dragon and Pulse variants of the Vega are the best deals you can get.

Which Vega did you spring for?

I have a Red Dragon RX 580, and that cooler is poopballs.

If it's improved somehow on the Vega... Then good for Powercolor...

I have the same RX 580 and I am content with it.

It gets really loud though once I fire up Oculus though. Like I can hear it once I enter Oculus Home, but before I pop in my ear buds.

The Vega 56 is apparently a really good overclocker, but some get a coil whine supposedly.

Well, we know Navi, at least the one realeasing in 2019 won't be a high end part. Meaning it's unlikely it'll be faster than GTX 1080or Vega 64 (or even GTX 1070 and Vega 56). People piss on Vega all the time but it's actually pretty capable card. If you can get one for good price and you want graphic card now, they are still a good option imo.
