Be Quiet dark rock pro 4 can overclock i7 8700k?

Hello Linustechtips Family,

Is it possible to overclock Intel i7-8700k with the Be Quite Dark rock pro 4?
I've done the research, but still if personally someone is using that and got results than that would be greatly appreciated. Cuz there are lots of videos, but not that trust worthy, as in they may be promoting the Be Quite for money(probably possible).

Thanks in advance. GGWP.

Does it have dual fans? I don't have experience with these but if it has 2 heatsinks and dual fans then you should be fine.

I'm gonna go find my own tech support...

with BLACKJACK and HOOKERS!

With the dark rock pro 4 I can overclock a 10 core i9, it can definitely handle any i7. Think of it as a competitor for a high quality water cooler.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

DRP4 can overclock almost as well as a Noctua NH-D15, and rivals 120mm and some 240mm AIO's.

It's an awesome cooler.

Which 360mm's does it beat?

It should fit over the ram.

Well the latest LTT vid shows even an NH u12s beating an H150i, more a testament to how a triple rad isn't necessarily better than any given dual rad. Although from personal experience I've seen that the drp4 will compete with quality 240 or even 280mm rads

The latest video lacked info on the testing methodology including on how the noise was measured, where the rads were placed, the fan speeds used, and the number / duration of runs. It seems like the fans weren't running at 100% rpm due to the noise levels of the H100i V2 shown being lower than the NH-U12S despite the much higher rpm fans that plenty of people would agree are louder. I'm guessing they were using a stock pwm curve instead. It doesn't match the results of most benchmarks I've seen.

Something I've noticed with the NH-U12S and NH-U12A in particular is that they occasionally punch far above their weight class in performance. I think the compact nature of the heatsink and fan results in less reliance on the case airflow where most other coolers would struggle more. I'm not sure what effect the solid top panel has on airflow compared to mesh on the View 71 case but I wouldn't be surprised if restricted airflow through the mounted rads.

Here are a few examples of this:

https://www.eteknix.com/noctua-nh-u12a-dual-fan-air-cooler-review/5/

Most examples I've seen are with the NH-U12S although I don't remember the specific reviews.

It could've also been an anomaly like where the H100i performed the worst on Ivy Bridge but the best on Haswell here: https://www.pcper.com/reviews/Cases-and-Cooling/Noctua-NH-U12S-CPU-Cooler-Review/Cooler-Comparison-Testing

that picture helped 100%.

And thanks all for reviewing this, now i can go for dark rock pro 4 instead of noctua d-15. All i was worried about the ugly looks of noctua(and don't wanna spend extra money on noctua chromax thing). DR pro 4 looks better. Thank u again

I'll admit, I was being a bit conservative.

I didn't want to get into endless arguments with AIO buffs by possibly overselling it.

I will say that if you are going to do extreme overclocking that would require it to reach to the points of 0.5V then I would not do it if I were you so if you are willing to go ham then go at it and kill your cpu but little overclocks would be okay by my experience.
