Ram - Mhz cut in half?! Please help.

Buying another stick of new 8 gb DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600mhz) of ram by Patriot from Amazon.

Trying to match, I ran Aida64, this ram on board is showing something odd.

Its Viper 8gb (single stick) - but heres what Aida64 shows.

PC3-12800J (800mhz)

1600 CL10 Series

The ram should be double, 1600mhz, why is it half? And what does the J mean and the CL10 series mean, compared to the Amazon CL11 PC3?

Is this stick in the machine with the J at the end of 12800 mean that this stick is only running at 800mhz??

And here's the stick showing 1600mhz, CL11, PC312800 (NO J on the end of 12800)

The true clock for that ram is 800 MHz. The confusion often arises as the marketing speed of 1600 from double data rate is not technically MHz, but people often misuse it as such. Manufacturers and tech publications often us MT/s instead for the marketing speed.

@porina Good grief. So this stick on board isn't even 1600mhz?!

Is the one I'm looking at 1600mhz? Or is it 800mhz?!

edit: I see what you're saying, because its double sided, it makes it 1600mhz not what Aida is showing of 800mhz?

don't worry, your stick of RAM is good, it shows half always in any memory stick.

watch this amazing guide about memory timings

watch this amazing guide about memory timings, generally less CL means faster memory so CL10 is better than CL11 at the same frequency
