Hmmm, so i rather go for a new 1 instead of used? im kinda debating between 1TB or 3TB (it goes for the same price, different quality)

I for one, care about the files on my hard drives, backup of course, but by buying used hard drive you are kinda looking for trouble. I have a lot of music on my hard drives and many work related data though. If it was only games on my drive, I might not care as much, if you can't do without those extra 2 TB, buy used, but I would not recommend that.

Worst case scenario is the HDD could be completely dead and you'll have wasted your money on a hard drive that doesn't even work.

It might be extra slow and/or loud, and of course might crap out sooner than later and take all you files while doing that.

ok, what happens usually when you use a used HDD then

Depends on how old it is and if S.M.A.R.T detected any errors, otherwise if it's not old and everything checks out then you'll get a normal life out of it I guess, hard drives are always hit or miss, new or old, so you should never trust your personal data with it and always back up everything

One downside is that you don't know how the drive was handled and how it was powered, for example I lost 2 drives in 2 years due to not having my PC grounded, I never knew that my PC was not grounded but that killed the drive way too fast, and there weren't any errors on it or anything it just suddenly died, I lost a lot of personal files.. since then I've been using cloud backup, or saving the data on multiple drives

It could have malware on it or be about to die. Always nuke used drives and always ask to have SMART values

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

"Here is some advice that might have gotten lost somewhere along the way in your life.

#1. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

#2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.

#3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place.
