I'm looking to do a mostly editing and light gaming 1080p rig, I finally got my chance in the school paper to be an editor. But someone on the forum had told me that the ryzen 3000 would be coming in a few months, I'm using a i5 4460 with a gtx 970 system at the moment should I get my new system built or should I wait?

PC use : editing articles, editing photos, school news reel editing, light gaming

Gaming : SOT, COD series, Forza series, dirt3,

For your school work, your current rig should be fine for the next few months, especially since summer is coming up. I'd definitely wait and see what Ryzen 3000 has in store before deciding. The 970 is still a pretty damn capable card so yeah wait and see what AMD bring out with Ryzen 3000 and Navi

I don't really know that you need to do a ton of upgrading right now. The 4460 is weak at this point, but an i7-4770 or i7-4790 could be bought for around $130. Sell off the i5-4460 for $55-60 and you're suddenly looking at a $70 upgrade that isn't going to make your system the best on the block, but it will keep you well within spec for your goal.

If you're looking to do a complete system refresh anyway, then yes, I'd wait, with the disclaimer that if you live near a Micro Center and a Ryzen 5 1600 would do it for you, you can get one for $80, $50 if you buy a motherboard with it.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Current timeline is end of May/start of June at Computex. Chipset for Ryzen 3000 is being launched then.

So yes it would be clever to wait

I watched the YouTube videos on ryzen, it was saying there be a 15% IPC improvement, is that a lot? Compared to the 2000 series.

I don't think I need a 1080ti for 1080p

Honestly rx 480 either 4gb or 8gb is great for 1080p, you can find one on Amazon for around $110.

I agree. But if he needs a new one ASAP, he should just upgrade to a low end Ryzen system, maybe Ryzen 3 2200g, some b450 mobo, 8gb ddr4 ram, and that's all.
