Editing CPU needed

Hello,

i have a i7700k cpu I’m wanting to upgrade my cpu due to the line of work I do.

My options at this point are i9900k or the new upcoming Ryzen Chip in which I will need to wait for.

ive never had AMD only ever intel. What would you guys do in this position?

Cheers

You'd find better performance through the 9900k

Alrighty Appreciate the reply I know they run pretty hot so I was look at getting a Corsair h150i pro 360mm cooler for it or would you recommend something else

I strictly stick to air cooling. A big air cooler like the D15 or Dark Rock Pro 4 perform great, they're dead quiet and don't have any possible problems of leakage or pump failure

seems like a waste to me i wouldnt even think about upgrading from a 7700k right now nothing is really better just more cores and unless the thing you do with it uses alot of cores and is not based largely on clock speed its not going to help you do anything better.

i would say wait to check out the AMD options because the current 3000 range looks pretty damn good - but then it isn't confirmed. Also what line of work are you in where you need a 9900k? - just wondering.

I second that, and also jonrosalia is correct its more of a side grade.  What work do you do ?  If you do video rendering for example then you need more cores.  Let us know exactly what you do and what apps you use.  Also the Ryzen 3000 is going to have up to 16 cores 32 threads for 600 dollars.  150 dollars more then the 8 core 16 thread i9 9900k.  But this is just speculation.  For games and general work go with the 9900k but if you do hard core auto cad or 3d studio max or Maya or Premiere then go for the higher core count of the upcoming Zen 2 which you be out in beginning of July.

What line of work?

The 7700k is very fast and at single threaded tasks is essentially the same as the 9900k assuming you can get a decent oc on it.

So I am assuming you need more cores/threads.

If you need more threads, 2700x is the cost effective method, but the 9900k is objectively faster than the 2700x, it just costs a lot more.

But if you using this for a business application the performance increase of the 9900k might pay for the $300 difference fairly quickly.

That said, if cores are all that matters for your application, look at Threadripper.

If your app isn't optimized to use more than 4 cores, you're going to have nearly identical performance (~5%) with:

i5-6600k 5ghz (if it could get there)

i7-6700k 5ghz (if it could get there)

i5-7600k 5ghz

i7-7700k 5ghz

i3-8350k 5ghz

i5-8600k 5ghz

i5-9600k 5ghz

i7-8700k 5ghz

i7-9700k 5ghz

i9-9900k 5ghz

I did CB R15 on my son's 4.8ghz 8350k, he score 212. Not bad, and I presume if I clocked my 8700k to 4.8 it would be about the same.

My friend has an i5-7600k, but his only scores around 200 or so because he can't get over 4.6ghz

If you need it now upgrade to the 9900k.   if you can wait then wait.  Supposedly the new AMD CPU's will be announced at COMPUTEX, but there's no way to know when they will actually be available and in what numbers.  They could be difficult to get initially and their compatibility with your software could be an issue.  There is no real way of knowing until they launch and have third party reviews.

dunna know what some of you think, but arguing with each other does nothing for the OP. and that's why we are here for the OP, not others quibbling over nothing equaling what the OP needs.. thread cleaned.
