Greetings all.

I'm going through the steps of planning out my first ever system build after my 8 year old Dell desktop finally shuffled off this mortal coil. I'm stuck now with an old Dell laptop that can only manage playing games like Supreme Commander or Rise of Nations.

So far, I'm planning on getting an build which will use an i9-9900K cpu, as well as at least 16GB of RAM, but I ran into the graphic card options and.. well..

Instead of keeping the (recently purchased.. aka 2 years ago) EVGA 980 Ti I had in the desktop pc for the new build, I had thought to upgrade to a newer model.  I still will be purchasing an EVGA card, however, as I am partial to the brand. As well, I'll still be using my 23" Dell monitor running at 60Hz.  With price not being a factor in my GPU decision, I'm unsure of which of the three specific cards on my radar would best suit my needs. It may well be useful for me as well to stipulate that while I have been told briefly the importance of clock speed and GPU memory for gaming, I'm still bewildered as to how each of the cards would apply to my preference of game choices. I won't be streaming either, so that functionality won't be exercised.

For the record, I'm partial to playing solo in games such as Cities:Skylines (my preferred game), Ghost Recon:Wildlands, FarCry 5, No Man's Sky, or  even something such as any of the games in the Assassin's Creed series or Tom Clancy's The Division (and maybe I'll try the new one as well). I have zero interest in the "hot" games like Apex Legends, Overwatch, Anthem, Destiny 2 or the like.

Finally, the choice of cards:

1. EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 FTW3 Ultra Gaming

  • 1815MHz Boost Clock
  • 261.4GT/s Texture Fill Rate
  • 8192MB GDDR6 Memory
  • 14000MHz Memory Clock
  • 448GB/s Memory Bandwidth

2. EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 FTW3 Ultra Gaming

  • 1860MHz Boost Clock
  • 342.2GT/s Texture Fill Rate
  • 8192MB GDDR6 Memory
  • 14000MHz Memory Clock
  • 448GB/s Memory Bandwidth

3. EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming

  • 1755MHz Boost Clock
  • 477.4GT/s Texture Fill Rate
  • 11264MB GDDR6 Memory
  • 14000MHz Memory Clock
  • 616GB/s Memory Bandwidth

I'd like to be able to play my preference of mentioned games on the highest possible graphics settings with at least a frame rate of 40fps.

My thanks to all who read this post as well as to those who provide any comments with advice / opinion on which of the three cards listed would be most useful for me.

You won't be upgrading at all if you keep that monitor (which I assume is 1080p if it's old and 23"), and that's a terrible value CPU for gaming. Expensive doesn't mean better. Your 980 Ti won't cap out.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!
