I was planning my new rig. I wanted it to by my first fully fledged linux build, but I think i'm not ready to let go of Windows just yet. I'm a programmer and sometimes i need to check if my programs run on different OSes also sometimes i need to run some shady software for all this i use virtualbox (macos, few linux distros, windows 7 and 10). But now my new rig give me new options. I could go for multiboot or Hard Drive Power Switch or maybe i should stick to safety of my virtualization? I propably would for runing funny executables (invoice.pdf.exe) but virtualization of windows does not sound like a good idea for gaming when i need performance. What do you think? Bonus question: Is there some way to physicly turn off m.2 drive?

What budget/country for the PC?

Really doesn't matter if your extra M.2s are powered or not.

Could just partition a single drive for the OSes, assuming they can all use the ntfs file system on the drive

mac OS is your only real problem

but you should probably just buy 2 PCs so your main workflow isn't interrupted while the other PC switches OSes

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I want it to be high-end but not crazy high-end. I'm from EU

It does when it comes to safety. In case of ransomware I will just get pwned on my windows drive only.

I think about something like:
linux - for work and gaming
windows - for gaming on crazy mods downloaded from websites written in russian
and virtualmachine for everything else.

Well a Ryzen 7 1700 is a cheap 8 core, and an RX 570/580 is fine for 1080p gaming.

total cost is something like 800 EUR for that kind of machine.

What's your budget and actual country?

I'm from Poland and budget is about 1k euro.
I would also want to do some vr on it in near future.

Don't know about your exact storage needs, or if you really even need 32GBs of RAM

But that's what a perfectly reasonable PC looks like
