What’s the best cheap cpu for gaming?

Im looking for opinions on the best budget cpu. I was thinking Ryzen 3, but I don’t know if that’s gonna be strong enough for the gaming I wanna do.

Budget is $100 and under... cpu can be used.

I’m thinking maybe and RX 570, or a 480 something like that. I wouldn’t rule out a 1060 though

It really depends on what GPU you pair it with, and what future proofing you want before you need to upgrade it.  A Ryzen 3 would pair nicely with a GTX 1060, but probably not a RTX 2060.

Oh if only future proofing was real

edit: and the bottleneck calculator too? man, you buy into too many PC myths

Ryzen 5 1400 has really good used prices on eBay, chances are you could get one sub $100

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

I was thinking maybe wait until zen 2 because older Ryzen prices will probably drop.

It's the best option whether you're pairing it with a gpu or not.

If you are pairing with a gpu though, consider paying a little bit over the budget for the ryzen 5 1600 (It's a big improvement):

If you can wait until zen2, wait.

it's very likely that prices will drop a lot so it's worth waiting for.

If there's a Micro Center near you (there are 4 in New York), you can pick up a Ryzen 5 1600 for $80, and get $30 off a motherboard if you buy one along with it.

Yeah, no Micro Centers within 4 hours of me unfortunately.

If your budget is low then keep your eyes peeled on the second hand market. Can get some good stuff for cheap.

i picked up a complete system with an i5-7400, 1060 3GB for £250 recently

unfortunately cheap new kit is often of poor ‘value’
