i don't even know how to start explaining the difference

this is the tl;dr version, can't really be more condensed.

if you know there are specific features you need, you want lower power consumption, and would prefer lower TDP (such in the case of low air flow and silent cases), you want mATX or mITX builds, you would get an i5 for gaming. If you're doing video editing/design and work applications that take advantage of multiple threads, you would want an i7.

An 8350/8320 is between an i7 and i5 and is one of the best chips for the money. The i5 will excel in single threaded work loads versus the 8350, but the 8350 will tie or beat the i5 in pretty much everything else. The 8350 will match the i7 in some work loads, but will usually be slightly surpassed, and obviously be surpassed in single threaded applications by the i7. The 8350 is still competitive enough to be a substitute for an i7 for the sake of a budget.

2011 and 1366 are enthusiast sockets, if you need one of those, you'll know. They're typically picked either for the workstation grade chipsets or for hex core Intel CPU's which would crush an 8350 at non gaming work applications. Albeit, the cost to performance ratio is not there.

This gets covered so many times that even if everyone gives an answer there will be some extra information in there as well.

Look at benchmarks, performance reviews, youtube videos with game play and FPS displayed. etc

That will start your track to not be a noob anymore but one thread wont cover it all.

I've noticed these 2 CPUs come up a lot and I'm a huge pc noob just wondering is there a big difference? Is one better than the other or is it preference?

I automatically go to intel because I know about it never heard of amd

both make acceptional cpus, between the i7 series and the 8 core series, the i7 with hyperthreading is good for rendering etc, but with 8 physical cores so is amd. intels cpus tend to be very good for programs/games/applications that are poorly optimized and they show there power in single threaded programs better then the amd cpus, although amd cpus are very fast as well, but preform just as good and in some cases better in optimized applications etc...

p.s this is going to create a war.. not because intel or amd is better but people will defend amd and be called fan boys,,, and then it begins

You should search a bit more before asking questions.

Anywhere here is a very simple thread on the forums: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/105049-fx-9590-vs-i7-4770k/

Read through every post and follow every source.

Basically if you want to remain a bit more "ignorant" then stay Intel, I would recommend people going Intel anyway, since it is overall a better "CPU experience".

For gaming? In the future? Hopefully not much of a difference at all. I really hope Mantle takes off. Atm? Some brand new games and some GPU titles there is no vast diffference. Others?

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2012/11/06/amd-fx-8350-review/6

The AMD can get half the frames in many games. This is really evident in older non 8 thread games and RTS/MMO's. Guild Wars 2, WoW with lots of stuff on screen.

Now if all you are going to play is "next gen" console games? The 8320 can be a good buy. An enthusiast build? I would never bother pairing a expensive mb and dual rad water cooler on an AMD. The I7 on a cheap z87 is just better. As a gaming machine the I5 is much better now and will be equal in the future.

There will always be some games, emulators etc that the AMD will struggle on with it's FPU.

The AMD 6300fx cheaper board smaller GPU is a great value as a "next gen" clone. The 8320 is a great budget rendering machine and a damn good next gen gaming machine. Would I ever buy a 8350 over an I5? No. 9xxx over a I7. No way in hell.

The I5 Haswell and 8350 are both putting out a lot of computing power. The problem is the I5 is twice as fast on each core, which means in games that aren't 8 thread? The 8350 can be a dog. Is the 8350 better and streaming in some games? Sure. Is the I5? Yup, cus the 8350 can't even run the game well without streaming. Is any AMD chip better then a I7 at gaming/streaming/rendering. Nope. When you OC both chips they aren't even close. A 5ghz 8350 is worse then a stock I7 in a 8 thread game and might barely beat it rendering. When you add even a mild OC on a cheap air cooler with the I7, it isn't close.

Treat AMD as a budget product it will treat you well. Treat it as a enthusiast grade CPU with enthusiast parts? You are throwing money away. People who tell you different? Are selling you something, or making you think you need an expesnive z87 to overclock. You don't. You need an expensive 990FX to OC the AMD high. This is due to on die vrm. Z87 puts heat/pressure on the chip. AMD puts pressure on the motherboard. AMD's chip runs just as hot because it is pumping much more voltage through it.
