Haven't built a PC in over 10 years!

valvoa

Hello all, this will be the first PC I've build in close to a decade! I'm extremely excited and have put together this build so far. Any thoughts about improvements around this budget? It will be used for gaming and work (3d artist). Initially I was thinking about going with a 9900k and a 2080ti but wasn't sure if it was worth breaking the budget for. I would like to play games on most Ultra settings on 1440.  Any feedback is greatly appreciated! thank you.

Wonder if 8700K is better for your use cases due to HT?

CPU cooler is pricey, ouch!   Do you really need NVMe, not sure if 3D Artist means huge file rendering or not.  Cuz you can get more bang for buck with SATA SSD (even in M.2 size).

G3 isn't that good, look at G2 or P2 and you can also cut down to 650w.  750 is overkill.

God, don't pay for Windows like that. Hope that's a place holder that means Argggg!!!!

Why the extra fans?   You just added 3 with the AIO.

I guess that's why I was considering a 9900 for HT. Rendering is a huge aspect using Vray and Marmoset but maybe I could get away with a cheaper option? Windows is a PH and the extra fans we're to replace the stock ones.

If your application benefits from more cores instead of clock speed maybe look at the Ryzen lineup.

GPU - 2080 is only <15% better than a 2070. I'd probably save some cash there.

HDD/SSD - Drop down from NVMe unless you really want it. You can get some 1TB drives now for the same price of NVMe.

PSU - Grab a RM PSU from corsair.

9700K beats the 8700K in most things IIRC, physical cores are faster than hyperthreaded threads.

Would defo get a beefy air cooler instead of an expensive AIO, the case can easily clear an NH-D15, NH-U12A, BeQuiet! Dark Rock Pro 4, Thermalright Le Grande Macho RT, etc. All of those will be quieter and more reliable than the AIO.

Never had issues with my G3s, but I got those before I knew they were missing some protections or something, the G2s are said to be better by the PSU bois. Feel free to drop to a 550W PSU, an X5675 at 1.45v on 6 cores and 12 threads along with a max power target Gaming X 1080 Ti struggle to pull 553W in the most intensive synthetic tasks, a new i7 and 2080 should stay under 550 easily.

Yes, just grab a key for $7 or so off eBay.

Would defo get a better mobo as well, ASUS's ones have missed the mark this gen. Look at something like the Aorus Elite, should cost less and it's much better for OCing the i7 (Gigabyte's VRMs are much, much better than most of the ASUS boards this gen).

2070 is a terrible value if you want an RTX card, because the 2060 exists. Better to go 2060 or 2080, or hop to the 2080 Ti if you have the budget.

I was considering the BeQuiet in addition to the AIO, I'll check out the rest of these options as well. Thanks for the feedback!

How much of a performance gain roughly are we talking about with a 2080 vs 2080ti?

Can you wait a couple of weeks until Computex?

27th March to be precise.

That's the day that is rumored for the 7nm AMD Parts to be released wich might (or not) be as good as the 8 Core Intel Chips but Cheaper or even offer 12 Cores on Desktop...

Another possibility is to bet on those Chips and get a decently modern Ryzen 5/1600 or 2600 version with the plan to replace the CPU as soon as the Replacement is there...

But since your system is 10 years old, you might not want to wait, right?

if I go with a 2080ti will the H500i be big enough? Or should I still go with the H700i?
