Dual channel, OC that thing to 3000Mhz (tighten the timings too) and your R3 2200G will love you.

So get the cheapest but highest mhz ram (that I can afford) then overclock?

I mean not exactly go the bargain basement, I went cheap got myself a single stick of DDR4-2133 and I couldn't get it to 3000MHz. It wasn't stable, so had to turn it down to 2866. Tbh still regretting that, will likely swap it out soon for dual channel.

Go for 2400 at least.
