Ethernet Keeps cutting out.

Whenever i am using a high network demanding task, ethernet will usually cut out for a second ( a little less or even more ). I have a Netgear NightHawk R6700 AC1750 router that is not connected through a switch. When testing on another device the cable end will light up although that is not the case on my laptop. It does show there is a connection on the router, but it will flash off (I turned off flashing to detect network activity) when someone is gaming. Could this be a defect in the router? My wireless works fine.

I suppose I like a chairs a little too much.

Before doing anything else I'd try a different cable + different port on the router (and the PC if it has an extra port).
