First of all, my computer speciifcations are as follows:

CPU: AMD FX-8320 - 4.5GHz

GPU: Gigabyte R9 280X

RAM: 8GB Kingston HyperX Blue (2x4GB) - 2000MHz 10-11-9-28-1T

HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda

SSD: x2 Sandisk Ultra Plus' 128GB (2x64GB) - RAID 0

Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 (Dual Channel)

I was going to purchase an extra stick of RAM, 4GB. The reason being I do video editing. Would I experience any difficulties with 3x4GB, any performance dips, etc.?

You Shouldn't experience a problem until you feel like putting something into that 4th dimm slot.  Most motherboards are dual channel so when you put a second stick of ram into a matching channel you need to match the ram otherwise issues happen.  (even having the same brand/model number of ram isn't guaranteed to work.  This is why dual channel ram kits exist)

Buying 2x2GB would only be a few dollars more and would be better as you would have all memory in dual channel. If you have the funds, 2x4GB would be even better.

With 3x4GB and the matched pair in the same bank (same colored slots), you will have 8 GB in dual channel and 4GB in single channel.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
