Laptop occasionally ask for Bitlocker key on startup

EggyRepublic

Once in a while, when I boot or restart my Microsoft Surface Book it asks for my Bitlocker key. I just restart my laptop again and it's fine. What is causing this? Is my PC infected by a virus?

Have you ever tried to encrypt your drive?

BitLocker is an encryption service provided by Windows I believe by default.

Did the Surface come pre-encrypted or did you encrypt it yourself?

The encryption is pre activated. I know my bitlocker is working, but I just don't know what caused it to suddenly ask me for the recovery key on startup. When I restarted it again without entering my key, it didn't ask for my key and just logged right back in.

Because it isn't necessarily causing any issues, you could just leave it as is. But because one of these times it may not work with just restarting, I'd try contacting support for Microsoft to see if they have a quick fix.

Better safe than sorry.
