Would a better router help?

bejamartins

My parents have a cable TV box that is part of their fiber optics internet service (here you can't have a fix internet service without TV). They have a separate cable TV service form another operator so they really didn't care much for it, but now they are thinking in cancelling that one and use the one that came with the internet contract.

But back then I bought a Wi Fi router, an Asus RT-AC51U to have Wi-fi in the living room and also connect by cable to a PC I have there, but the TV box that used the cable from the fiber converter no longer works with the router in between, as it cannot keep the bitrate needed for the video stream (I don't get why, as I can perfectly stream Netflix through it). Now they need the box connected, if I invested in a better router, would it help? If so, what would you reccomend?

I go with TP-LINK routers. It's my favorite. Thou I'm not sure if it supports the cable TV box.

Any Router will be compatible with any cable (modem / router set).

Why not use them all?

Your router can be connected to the cable as a wifi repeater, it will repeat the internet from the cable.

If you're worried with signal degradation, connect one another with lan cable.

The router was connected to the TV box with a cable, it's the only way it connects. With the router between the TV box and the fiber signal converter it is when it stops working, giving and error message for connection speed.
