What phone should I get?

Lord Letto

Been focusing on eBay lately for the search, made a $55 offer on the Nexus 6 on Monday but it expired today so I bumped it up to a $65 offer, I feel the same will happen though.
There's a top rated seller with a feedback score over 113k & 99.8% positive feedback I've been looking at , they have a few options in my budget currently, here's some I'm considering sorted by ends soonest, shipping is listed at $12.99 standard shipping for all phones from Toronto to Kitchener:

Ok, the 3 auctions I was looking at just finished, while I bid on 2 of them I ended up being the runner up so if the winner don't pay I should be eligible for a 2nd chance offer if the seller does that. the Alcatel 1x ended up going for $53, I put in $52 then the ASUS Zenphone Max M1 ended up going for $54, I put in $53, I never bid on the Moto E4 but that ended up going for $57 but if it's advised to go for that instead there's another one on the block except with scratches on the screen protector instead of scuffs on the back, ends tomorrow at 9:30 am EDT, currently at $34.90: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Motorola-Moto-E4-5-0-16GB-Black-Android-Smartphone/401854713318

2 new listings from them, a BlackBerry KEYone that ends Sunday at 9am EDT, currently 2 bids at $1.25: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/BlackBerry-KEYone-4-5-Unlocked-Smartphone-32GB-Storage/352764608801
Another ASUS Zenphone Max M1 that's the same specs & condition as the one that just went, ends Sunday at 9:30 am EDT & currently 2 bids at $1.25: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/ASUS-Zenfone-Max-M1-5-5-16GB-Black-Android-Smartphone/352764642496

Also, I noticed this here: https://www.androidcentral.com/best-android-phone-under-100
Nokia 2 is best unlocked under $100 (USD) while the Alcatel 1x is the runner up, so while I missed out on the runner up the winner could still be a option as there's a lightly used Nokia 2 8GB listed on my local Kijiji for $90, I replied & asked what's the lowest they'll take, got the reply "$80. Exactly the same thing is selling on amazon.ca for more than double that.": https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/nokia-2-unlocked-dual-sim-lightly-used-great-for-travel/1454264689

Edit: Just looked on Kijiji if any more options have been added since my post yesterday, there's a LG G4 in good condition without charger for $40: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/cambridge/lg-g4/1454913840

Do you have a deadline for when you're gonna upgrade your phone?

Personal impatience and bewilderment aside, I found more sub-$100 (USD) doorbusters for ya:

Refurbished iPhone SEs:

Refurbished Moto Z Play:

IMO best options on Freedom's website right now:

Previous finds:

Spoiler

Any of these below from Ebay are great options as well as long as you verify that they work with Freedom Mobile LTE/B66 (click the bold text for Ebay listings & non-bold text for IMEI images):

.

I'm always here to help ?

No real deadline, just want to make sure I make a good choice & Hopefully save some extra money to get a better option, currently at $77.90 total & I have a coupon for $5 off purchases over $10 from eBay until September 12th so If I were to get a phone off eBay before then, budget as it is now would be $82.90 total, I get my next payment on Friday so I should be able to increase the budget somewhat then, I won't know how much it'll be though until the weekend but it may be possible that one of the sub $100 options would be possible.

Other possibilities I looked into:

On 8/21/2019 at 9:48 PM, Lord Letto said:

3 LG Phones (looks like my G3) for $70, 2 good condition 1 just need new battery 1 shattered screen 1 works great: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/cambridge/3-lg-phones/1454237581

I asked "What model are they, looks like the G3? $70 is for all 3 together correct? Are you open to offers?" the reply I got back "Yes 70 all 3 yes open offers"

on Sunday I emailed some local repair places, this is a part of what I asked:

Quote

"4x LG G3 (1x D852, 3x unknown), D852 got intermittent screen flickering & fading/glitching/failing to display, random restarts (Lately noticed that it (sometimes?) blue screens when it restarts) & intermittent problems connecting to WiFi/WiFi not turning on, I'm guessing/hoping it's only the mother board, as for the 3x unknowns, 1 apparently works great, 1 needs a battery & the other got a smashed screen, if I were to get the 3 unknowns ($70 obo total for all 3) it may be possible to use the one that works great & use parts from the D852 & other 2 unknowns to maybe make 1 or 2 working phones."

The reply I got back:

Quote

we can give a try on swapping parts from the other device and try to make 1 or possibly 2 phones working for you. We charge $35 labour fee. We will not charge you anything if we are not able to fix any of the device. Also, We are not buying any LG G3s as this particular model have a lot of motherboard issues.

So if the seller of the phones would accept $60, that would be $20/phone +$35 labour (assuming per phone, not sure if tax included or +tax) that would be $55/phone, 1 of the 3 should work great as is so of the other 3 (2 of the 3 + my D852 that I already own) if i get 2 of them fixed from parts of the others the grand total would be $130+ ($55+$55+$20, plus any possible taxes from labour)

Also, My sister found her old LG Optimus G (E973), all it should need is a screen, she got it new from Telus shortly after it came out, used it for about a year then it got dropped on pavement that caused the screen to break (just the glass & I suspect the digitizer, the display itself still shows up OK), there are some local repair places that wouldn't (or couldn't) give me a quote to replace the screen, 1 place said that LG Electronics Canada has stopped manufacturing for the phone (something I emailed them myself about & confirmed it's true), of the 3 places I heard back from, only 1 gave me a quote of $149+tax ($168.37 after taxes) to replace the screen on it to get it back up & running.

Here's a thread I started here yesterday asking about sourcing parts for a discontinued phone, assuming labour of $35, maybe I can source a aftermarket or NOS screen & bring it in to get it replaced for maybe around $65-70ish?:

Thoughts on the Galaxy S7 Edge, just found a local deal on one! $100, "Great Shape always been in a Otter Box one included", I replied & asked if they are open to offers, I got a reply back "$85 is the lowest i will go": https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge/1456404074
If I were to go for it, I should have the money tomorrow to pick it up then or on the weekend.

Edit: Welp, throw that hope away, I replied back & said "I can do $85 tomorrow or on the weekend, just to confirm but even at that price the OtterBox would be included & there's no issues with the phone?", got this reply back "Sorry, it's no longer available."
The hunt continues.

I most likely won't go for it myself due to the cost when combined with a plan & won't be worth the cost at the end, but I'm just wondering how many people out there use rent to own/weekly financing services (such as Smart Choice or Easy Home)? I was just looking on my local Kijiji & saw a listing that Smart Choice got the Xiaomi Mi A1 64GB on sale for $9/week on a 104 week (2 year) term or outright for $619, regular price is $15/week, for the same weekly price ($9/week) on a 52 week( 1 year) term or outright at $349, they have the ASUS Zenfone 3 Max 16GB ZC520TL:

http://asmartchoice.ca/electronics/smartphones-rent-to-own.html

After seeing that I checked Easy Home, they currently have the Galaxy A5 32GB & A20 32GB on sale for $12/week (Regular price is $19/week) on a 104 week (2 year) term:

Just done some preliminary math & I think my current budget right now would be roughly $135, if I wait until the 10th (2 days before the $5 off eBay coupon expires) I should get another $65 that would bring it up to $200ish though may end up being less, if I were to spend $50 for a deposit account with Freedom that would bring it down to $150ish.

Just done a look through Kijiji & Found these options:

Samsung phone for $120: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/guelph/samsung-phone/1456180526

S6 Edge for $120, "9/10 Condition-works perfect!" asked if open to offers, "Yes, the price is negotiable": https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/samsung-s6-edge/1455864111

Pixel 1 for $90: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/guelph/32gb-pixel-1-unlocked-with-case-90/1455579400

S7 for $120: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/samsung-s7/1429539554

HTC One M9 for $100, asked what's the lowest they'll take "I would do $75 and this phone can work with freedom I was with that Carrier", "It also has 32gb storage and 3gb of ram": https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1452486623

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus for $100: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/xiaomi-redmi-5-plus-new-model-64gb-black-cases-available/1452028305

S6 for $120 firm: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/cambridge/samsung-galaxy-s6/1455117778

Also, my sister mentioned that she might be interested in getting a cheap used phone also & going with freedom as their prices look good, I think she would prefer a LG & I saw these while looking & kinda curious how they would be compared to her old LG Optimus G E973?, she never said a budget outright but maybe $200ish max though somewhere around $100ish or under would be preferred:

LG X Power 3 for $120: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/lg-x-power-3-unlocked/1456638989

Another X Power 3 for $100: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/lg-x-power-3/1455656902

Stylo 3 Plus for $80: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/guelph/80/1452963510

Nexus 5 for $150: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/guelph/excellent-condition-nexus-5-16gb-unlocked/1453473437

Nexus 4 for $85: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/phone-for-sale/1438631229

Also some phones in the G series such as the G3,4, 5 & 6:

G3 for $65: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/cambridge/lg-g3-32g-unlocked/1455463862

G5 for $140: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/lg-g5/1454774818

G5 for $200: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/lg-g5/1446910297

G6 for $199: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/lg-g6-unlocked/1454267859

G6 Thinq for $200: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/lg-g6-thinq-unlocked/1455562253

G6 for $200: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/cambridge/lg-g6-used/1455679871

There's also the local store I mentioned before that offers a 30 day warranty, their latest ad don't list the G4 or G5 so I'm guessing they may be out of stock, but in a old ad I found from last month they had the G4 listed for $119, G5 for $149 & in both ads they have the G6 & V20 for $199:

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/unlocked-lg-g6-g5-g4-v20-x-power-at-gadget-town-electronics/1448597606

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1456611583

Edit: I replied to the LG G6 (or Q6?) 64GB with otterbox for $130, I asked "Hi, any pictures? Is it the G6 as it says in the title or the Q6 as it says in the description? What's the lowest you'll take for it? Would it be possible to meet up somewhere in Kitchener-Waterloo?"
The reply I got back "I only have a mint condition unlocked samsung s6 grest price 32g 110"

Edit 2: I replied to the S7 for $120 and asked if they're open to offers, the reply i got "I could be, but to let you know i have been given higher offers so far"

Also, I got a reply to a wanted ad I posted "I have a brand new zte avid 4 just bought 3 days ago perfect condition unlocked comes with box and charger and warranty paid $100 for it at the store..could do like $60 for it ?"

Edit 3: heard back from the HTC One M9 again last night, asked if i'm interested, I replied "Just doing some research right now trying to figure out what phone to get, if I decide to get it i'll let you know" he replied back "Okay no problem", then just now today he replied with "Not sure if you're still interested or already made up your mind but I'd be willing to do $65""I really don't need it so I don't mind lowering price"

So I asked around reddit for some help again, here's some bits:

"As someone who's worked for cell phone carriers for a few years, Huawei is generally really good and well-priced. If you couldn't give a rats ass about security patches (don't download sketchy stuff and you'll be fine), you'll still have google play updates for currently available phones."

I looked for Huawei phones on my local Kijiji, here's some I found listed up to $150:

Huawei Honor V8 listed for $149: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/factory-unlocked-huawei-honor-v8-dual-sim-32g-storage-5-7/1456541065

Huawei GR5 listed for $120: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/huawei-gr5/1455989029

Huawei phone, "10/10 condition had a screen protector on but took off and screen is clean" listed for $30: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/huawei-phone/1454461534

There's a ad for a store in North York, available online or in store, they have a Huawei Y5 Lite 2017 CRO-L23 for $149.99 & the Huawei Y6 (SCL-L04) for $199.99, both brand new: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/canada/brand-new-huawei-y5-lite-cro-l23-huawei-y6-scl-l04-unlocked/c1474644

Huawei Y5 prime listed for $125: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/huawei-y5-prime/1453809014

eBay listing showed up for a open box Huawei Ascend XT2 H1711 in 10/10 condition, on sale for $5 off at $94.99 with free shipping: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Huawei-Ascend-XT2-H1711-UNLOCKED-16GB-5-5-12MP-Android-7-0-4G-LTE-SMARTPHONE/113736105111

Here's another that showed up from same seller, open box Huawei Nova Plus (MLA-L13) in 8/10 condition, on sale $6 off for $113.99 with free shipping: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Huawei-Nova-Plus-Silver-Unlocked-MLA-L13/113736117755

someone compared the Galaxy S7 to the Galaxy A8 & said they'd prefer the A8 over the S7, they called 1440p 4k, someone replied to that & corrected them & said for 4K to get the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, Sony Xperia XZ Premium, Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium or Sony Xperia 1, I looked for those & would be out of budget, cheapest A8 was like $280 obo & there's a local store I mentioned before that had the Xperia Z5 Premium in a old ad for $199

"pixel 2/xl can be an option. see if someone from US will sell it you and ship to canada. there are some in your price range on swappa." swappa was a no go, but on Kijiji there's a Pixel 2 "hardly used" listed for $175: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1456511398

I replied with "Hi, Any Pictures? Any Issues? What's the lowest you'll take for it?", the reply I got back"It's black, only used a few months $150."

Someone also sent me a PM on Reddit:

"Hey Buddy! You said you wanted phone under $150? I've got an unlocked LG Stylo 4 Android Phone with Android 8.1. LINK It was lightly used in excellent condition and was used for a bit over a year on the T-Mobile network here in New York with great speed. The phone is in 8.5/10 condition with just some light micro-surface scratches on the front and back (cannot notice that much) In original box with 2 cases (only 1 shown) and the original charger and cable (NEVER Used) as well as a small power bank. Timestamp ALL for only $85 Shipped within the Continental USA. $100 via Priority to you in Canada.

Here's ALL My stuff I'm selling in case you're interested."

amazon.com link: https://www.amazon.com/LG-Stylo-Unlocked-T-Mobile-Exclusive/dp/B07D3QKRW1

Stuff he's selling: https://www.heatware.com/u/105796/items

Link to phone in question there: https://www.heatware.com/for-sale/LG-Stylo-4-Android-81-PhoneT-MobileUnlocked-Great-condition-in-Box-android-phones-3364.html

He also got a LG V20 listed for the same price, though mainly a Sprint phone: https://www.heatware.com/for-sale/LG-V20-SPRINT-Android-Smartphone-great-condition2CasesChargerMINT-android-phones-3205.html

Anyway, I've been thinking & I'm leaning towards the HTC One M9 I found for $65, i think it may be good value though I can't say for sure, another possibility would be going all out & get the Pixel 2 for $150.

Ok, was considering the $65 HTC One M9 or $150 Google Pixel 2, but then when I asked on r/PickAnAndroidForMe what one would be better value, someone said "Pixel 2 or on the real cheap Umidigi A5 Pro, but Pixel 2 camera better than Umdigi A5 Pro.", I looked up the Umidigi A5 Pro & for a new phone I'm currently considering that, for me it would be about $143.50 from the official Umidigi store on aliexpress with estimated delivery in 38 to 53 days or I can get it from them on amazon.ca for $165.99 fulfilled by amazon & eligible for free prime shipping to get it in 2 or 3 days.

However, after my post in this thread: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1100761-am-i-looking-for-an-android-unicorn/

I checked the Virgin Mobile site where I saw the LG G7 One for $0 on a Silver plan & noticed they currently have it so that with that phone they have $5 off the monthly bill & looking at plans they have a limited time offer to get unlimited minutes +1GB data for $50/month so with the $5 off/month being offered with the G7 One it would only be $45/month that's within my $40 (current monthly payment with them on a grandfathered plan) & $47.50 (my plan after using up to 50MB of pay per use data), needless to say i'm considering going that route also.

Edit: My sister, who's also looking for a phone, just showed me a listing on Facebook Marketplace, 2 Blackberrys , a Z10 for $50 or a Z30 for $70, $100 for both, unlocked, absolutely nothing wrong, perfect quality 10/10: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/494642394646961/

I don't Know much about Blackberrys other than the fact that it's a local company (Waterloo, Ontario) so if I were to get one & had a problem with it I could hop on the bus or LRT & bring it in to RIM/Blackberry themselves.

Edit 2: Found those Blackberrys on Kijiji:

Z10 for $40: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/blackberry-z10-10-10-condition-like-new-mad-cheap/1456657977

Z30 for $60: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1456656186

He also got a DTEK50 for $100: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1456656186

Nokia Lumia 638 for $50: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1457231945

and a Microsoft Lumia 640 XL for $80: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1456659924

all are 10/10 condition except for the 640 XL, that's 9.5/10

Looking currently for 2 phones, 1 for me & 1 for my sister, looking to spend the $130-150 budget to get both, just had a look today & here's what I found so far:
LG X Power for $50 "Great working condition just has a crack in the screen other wise works perfect", I replyed & asked "any pictures showing the crack? Are you open to offers?" I got the reply "The crack is on the side to the bottom whats your offer" "Otherwise whats your offer its like brand new has case and everything" I replied with "If it's still usable & the crack don't interrupt the touch or visibility when watching videos I'm thinking maybe $40?" got the following reply's back "Everything is clear works perfect" "When would you like to come""And 40$ is fine""Im using it now", if I were to get it it would be for my sister: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1457943039

LG G4 for $80 obo, "purchased in 2016 & used for 1.5 years, spent all that time in a otterbox case that's included, also included is a 32GB micro SD card, at about the 1.5 year mark it experienced the bootloop issue, sent it in to get repaired & at that time purchased a new phone, came back from warranty repair with a new motherboard and the issue was resolved, also has a very new battery that was purchased a couple months before the bootloop event, battery will last all day with moderate use", would be for me: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/guelph/used-lg-g4-smartphone-80-obo/1457771042

LG G4 seller also got a Samsung Galaxy S3 for $50 obo "was purchased back in 2013. Used for 2 years, and it still works well. The battery will last the whole day with moderate use(texting and phone calls). It has 16gb of internal storage, and you can insert a micro sd card and a sim card in where the removable battery is located" would be for my sister, so would be $130 for both at the asking price: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1457767046

Motorola Moto G5 (XT1670) listed for $80, would be for my sister: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/motog5-cell-for-sale/1457720555

Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 for $75, "The phone is in great shape but the battery indicator always seems to read 58%; whether I've charged it for hours or have been using it for hours, it never seems to go up or down (i.e. I think the battery fully charges and runs down normally but the indicator just seems to be stuck).", would be for me: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/guelph/samsung-galaxy-a5-2017-phone/1457092515

Edit: G4 sold, but he still got the S3

Ok, so thanks to r/freedommobile & the device compatibility matrix on the website: https://www.freedommobile.ca/en-CA/support/which-phones-are-compatible-with-enhanced-services-at-freedom-mobile--generic-phone--en--2--1
I have it narrowed down to the following Open box options at the moment:
Open box LG Q6 (M703) for $121.99 ($137.85 after tax): https://www.ebay.ca/itm/LG-Q6-32GB-5-5-FullVision-Display-Black-Ice-Platinum-Unlocked-M703-Smartphone-z/263488137938
if I were to settle for 16GB of storage instead of 32GB there's a Open box LG X Power 2 for $2 less before tax, however when I went to look to see if it says if it's the M320G (Would be Wi-Fi Calling, VoLTE & Extended Range LTE compatible on BYOP), in item specifics it shows up as a Canadian Samsung Galaxy S7 (G930W8 ) that's not listed on the device compatibility matrix but from what I can see it's only lacking B66, it got B4, 7 & 13: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/LG-X-Power-2-16GB-Black-UNLOCKED-Good-Condition-Warranty-from-us/283282478002

If I had just another $7.50-$10 or so to cover the cost of tax, there's a Open box Condition C LG G6, though it don't say if it's the H873: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/LG-G6-32GB-Astro-Black-UNLOCKED-Warranty-from-Us/283380843296

looked worldwide & there's a Open Box Moto G6 Play (XT1922-9) on the US side of Niagara Falls For $144.94 or best offer+$22.39 shipping with the current exchange rate, that would be about $2 less than the C Grade G6 & would be open to offers to get it in budget: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Motorola-Moto-G6-Play-4G-LTE-Unlocked-CellPhone-5-7-32GB-Deep-Indigo-CH12-12/293213882451

Edit: Just checked my local Kijiji & here's some possible used options in the 16GB+ range if I were to settle for a 16GB instead of 32GB+:

LG G6 64GB for $150: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/lg-g6/1457426797

LG X Power 3 for $100: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/lg-x-power-3-unlocked/1458164200

LG X Power 3 for $100: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/lg-x-power-3/1455656902

eBay listing for a X Power 2 that's mixed up from the same seller from the one above, except instead of it being for $119.99 with some S7 mixed in, it's $89.99 with some K4(2017) mixed in: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/LG-X-Power-2-16GB-Titanium-UNLOCKED-Good-Condition-with-Warranty-from-us/283553410594?hash=item420519ae22:g:XXEAAOSwTbNb4ySg

They also have a Open box X Power 3(LM-X510WM) that appears to be a X Power 3 for $129.99: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/LG-X-Power-3-LM-X510WM-4G-LTE-UNLOCKED-16GB-Smartphone-Good-Condition-Blue/273931422355

Moto E5 Play for $70: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/cambridge/motorola-e5-play/1448466032

Multiple iPhone 6 options showed up in the $110 & $170 price range (I capped the search at $170 to offer up to $20% off),mainly regular 6 16GB but other variations (S & +) in 16GB or 32GB & up

I also checked for the iPhone 7 & there were 3 results, $150, $165 & $170)

from r/freedommobile I had 2 offers for a phone:

If I had a way to get to Downtown Toronto, I could get a LG G6 that came from Freedom for $150, sadly I don't have a way to get there unless I take a Go/Greyhound bus

A brand new unopened Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) from Freedom, had been planning on $250 earlier, but they can do $150 for me. Happy to help out someone in need, they'll be passing by my city on the 17th or 18th

Okay so with shipping to the great kingdom of Canadia a requirement and a max of $200 CAD............

  • Is your budget for each phone or total for both you and your sister?
  • Does your budget include the first month phone plan payment?
  • Is Extended-Rage LTE a must?

Based on your carrier's matrix (I'm surprised they didn't test compatibility of Asus and Oneplus) these my finds today:

Max budget is $150 for 1 phone (My sister will keep using the Galaxy Grand Prime for now)

According to r/applehelp the iPhone 6/6+ became obsolete today with the 6S/6S+ & 7 being on it's last legs

Looking for something that's BYOP compatible (✓, not ✓ (*)) with Wi-Fi Calling, VoLTE & Extended Range LTE, also needs to be the same model number (From that list, it would be the iPhone 6,/6+ (A1549 / A1522), iPhone 6S (A1688), Galaxy S8 (SM-G950W), LG G6 (H873), LG V30(ThinQ)(H933)

iPhone SE (A1723) is only Wi-Fi Calling & VoLTE compatible, no Band 13/Extended Range LTE

Pixel 2/XL is not compatible with any features at all

XA1 Ultra (G3223) is not BYOP Compatible with Wi-Fi Calling, lacking VoLTE & Band 13/Extended Range LTE

LG V20 (H915) is not BYOP Compatible with Wi-Fi Calling, lacking VoLTE & Band 13/Extended Range LTE

In regards to BYOP compatibility, according to the person on r/freedommobile that offered me a BNIB Freedom Branded Galaxy A8 (2018) for $150:

Me:"Compatibility matrix shows compatible but not BYOP compatible so I'm not sure how that works considering I think it'd be considered BYOP for me?"

Them:"That is referring to using a Freedom branded A8 vs. bringing one from a different network. Since this is Freedom branded and is using Freedom's software with the customizations to add VoWIFI, VoLTE, and Extended LTE, all three will work. Supported phones launched in 2019 often just have all the manufacturer's VoLTE/VoWIFI/Extended LTE customizations on every device, but in 2018 Samsung was still doing carrier specific customizations on carrier specific software."

I Found a LG G6 Local for $150, just need to arrange a time/place to meet & go to the bank to take out the money to pick it up, or wait for the person with the Galaxy A8 (2018) to come to the area (Tuesday the 17th or Wednesday the 18th) to get that, my understanding is a used G6 is better than a BNIB A8 (2018) so the G6 is likely the one for me?

G6 I found & posted in my above post:

Got my tax return ($154 Canadian) last week & have been thinking about what to spend it on, currently i'm thinking it'll most likely be a phone to replace my LG G3 that I got new for $0 on a 2 year term through my carrier (Virgin Mobile) back in late May 2016 but has been problematic & unusable at times for the past few months (screen flickering & fading/glitching, random restarts & problems connecting to WiFi), it's just a matter of choosing a phone to upgrade to, looking on my local classifieds there's a few options I'd like opinions on:

1.75 year old Samsung Galaxy S7 for $150 OBO, only problem apparently is the screen protector that came with the phone is peeling on the top: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1420611813

S7 for $130 in "amazing" condition: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1420519086

2x S7, each got a Otterbox Commuter case & 1 includes a 32GB SD card, $160 each: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1423315504
Sony Xperia X Performance for $120 or best offer: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-water...rformance-cellphone/1422442920
Motorola Z Play for $150: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/moto-z-play/1422513267

Motorola Z2 Play for $180: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/kitchener-waterloo/unlocked-lenovo-moto-g-z2-play/1423146157
Whatever phone I get would be mainly be used for watching videos, browsing the web (on WiFi), Listening to music, playing games, taking pictures & making calls when needed. I'm currently leaning towards the Samsung Galaxy S7.

I reccomend checking out the samsung A series phones, a xiaomi phone, an older oneplus phone or a pixel 3 or pixel 3a

Great options but..........

  • AFAIK Lord Letto has a budget of $150 CAD (maybe $175 if really worth it)
  • must be a specific phone model that checks as many LTE compatibility boxes as possible listed HERE.

So how high can we go with flagship features without breaking the bank? Well back to the classics (eg. iPhone 6/6S) 9_9

Deal is done, I'm now the proud owner of a Used LG G6, met the seller at a Freedom Mobile store & before I paid for it got the store to test it & it passed, so I paid for it & brought it home, $150 Canadian w/ a Spigen case (looking at their site it looks like the Tough Armor)
