Hi

I recently purchased a 2080 asus strix oc

My problem is that I am getting fps drops in games like pubg and battlefield (not only) aswell as fluctuating core clock speeds from 1995Mhz down to 1300Mhz.

Could this be because of my psu as asus recommends 650w for the 2080 ?

My specs:

CPU: intel core I7-7700k

GPU: 2080 asus strix gaming oc

Motherboard: msi z270 gaming plus

RAM: Gskill ripjaws 2x 8gb ddr4

Cooling: NZXT Kraken x62

PSU: EVGA 600w 80 plus

storage: Samsung ssd 850 evo 250 gb

hdd 1tb barra cuda Seagate

I am very dissapointed with my new GPU any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Joel

Run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), restart, and install the latest fresh driver.

You didn't mention thermal performance, so I assume you are not thermal throttling.

Well your PSU is complete total crap in the 1st place.

Best to get a good quality 650W PSU.

Pick something in the 1st 2 tiers, A+ or S.

Okey thanks for the response yes I am aware of my psu i am most likely going to purchase a new psu. No my gpu is always under 65 degrees

I would defiantly get a new PSU before anything else.

And before something happens to your graphics card.

I recommend taking the GPU out until you get a new PSU.

i used gpuz and it came up with these errors

Looks like you are voltage / power limited then.

Try increasing the power target/limit, and increasing the GPU Core voltage, but a little bit (e.g. +0.100 V).

Oh right....

He should be able to adjust the power limit, though...

Install MSI Afterburner and observe the monitoring graphs where things intersect. Like, down the same line when clocks drop, check other graphs like temperature or power limits if they are being triggered. This is the easiest way to connect what's causing these drops. Going down to 1300MHz is WAY too low for modern GeForce cards.

So I purchased a corsair 1000rmi psu  and I seem to be getting more stable clock speeds  although I am still getting 5 to 10 FPS  less than I should be  I wonder if my I7-7700k is bottlenecking?

I am happy that I could fix my fluctuating clock speeds though so thanks guys

GPU-Z charts will tell you what is limiting clock speeds.  Power, utilization, temps, etc.  It shouldn't be dropping THAT low though.  I've never seen my Strix 2080 under about 1900.  Utilization is pretty low though if you have RTX on its waiting for the tensor cores but the clock speed is still high.
