PSU help selection needed

Just get a Prime Ultra Platinum/Titanium at 600W or more. The 1% efficiency absolutely does not matter

So I will be building a new system soon and decided to use outervision's website to check the wattage.

Recommended UPS rating:1000 VA
Recommended PSU Wattage:494 W

 

The recommended psu is a 1000W 80 plus Titanium, however I do want to make sure that it will be as efficient as it could possibly be, which is why I am creating this post.

I am currently thinking about getting a Seasonic Prime Ultra titanium 1000W.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

A PSU above 80+ Gold will cost so much that the efficiency will not make up the cost in electricity cost any time soon (say years)

we're talking 450w with heavy overclock, Pirme95 and Furmark at the same time. I doubt any server based on this set of hardware will need to do that 24/7

Generally I use my computer for about 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, I just want to make sure that it will be cost efficient in terms of how much it will draw vs use.

Welcome to the forums. I'm glad you joined, because otherwise you would end up making a costly mistake.

 

  1. Outervision PSU calculator is garbage. It overestimates in order to convince people to spend more money - it's how they make money.
  2. Even with how much outervision overestimates, it's still not recommending you a 1000w PSU. It's recommending you a 494w (500w) PSU. It states "Recommended PSU Wattage:494 W"
  3. Don't mistake the 1000va estimation for a UPS as what you need for the PSU. A UPS is a battery backup for power outages. If you're not shopping for a UPS, then ignore it. 
  4. A system with a 9700k + RTX 2060 does not need a 1000w power supply. In total that system is more like 300w.
  5. Look at reviews that test power consumption to calculate how much power you expect your system to consume. For example this review of the rtx2060 from Tom's hardware shows power consumption... https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-rtx-2060-ray-tracing-turing,5960-8.html
  6. Since most decent PSUs start at either 450w or 550w, that's where you should be looking.

Why, though.

Check how efficient that particular PSU is at your system's load, and how much your system will actually use, based on actual testing. Use that, and the electricity price to calculate what actually makes sense for you. Odds are, it won't matter, so you're better off just going for a cheaper and/or better PSU.
