I'm considering shifting away from my current 15.6" gaming laptop and replacing it with a much lighter and smaller 13.3" laptop. Currently I produce 1080p video content from footage on my gopros and my DSLR. Please give me some suggested builds for handling 1080p on an editing PC that I could use for this purpose

My budget would be $700. I already have an ultrawide and a standard monitor.

If you are just splicing clips together almost anything should be able to handle that.

Just keep in mind the smaller the laptop the hotter it runs / the more it throttles / the slower it will render. You can very quickly run into an apple macbook pro i9 "situation" where the cpu is actually slower than a thicker laptop with a cooler cpu that doesn't throttle. something to consider

Just want to clarify, you're looking for a desktop build for $700 to suit your needs, correct?

Correct. I filter through editing about 2 hours worth of footage into 10 minute videos. Usually for stuff like sports reels for team sports, or travel videos.

Ok, you're best off not spending much on the gpu, Jay did a video a while back and it had some interesting results. You can skip to 4:11 and pause it and read out the graphics cards he tested. You could almost slot a potato and get the same render times.

Work stations aren't my forte, I gotta sleep, I'll help you tomorrow if @emosun or someone else don't give you a parts list well suited to you

Not gonna claim it's perfect, but should do what you want well. This gives you a dedicated os drive and an nvme drive to work off, if you don't need more than 16GB ram you could get this and spend about $20 more for a 2TB ssd.

I'm thinking I might wait and see what the ryzen 3000 chips are like. I've heard that the ryzen 5 3600 might be 8 core and close to $200

That's a solid plan, and b550 boards hopefully have better vrms to handle the extra cores
