16:9 the aspect ratio of choice for content creators and gamers.

Ok so more research I do on ultra wide monitors the more I get turned off.  Im not a 10 hour a day gamer,, I play 1 hour a day.  I need a good desktop at 4k, and my gaming I do at 1440p.  These wide monitors will give black borders and that is the turn off.  Also some games support it not all and those that do sometimes have issues especially older games.  ALso your vertical is shorter and your vertical resolution is a crummy 1440p on the desktop.  This is why I want 4k 16:9 at 120hz with hdr and freesync and we have that in the WASABI MANGO 43" 4k UHD HDR 120hz.  So I can play at 1440p with no borders at 120hz,, Only I did not buy this monitor because its flat.  Flat is no good its horrible after having Curved..... so gotta wait for curved monitor with 43" hdr 120hz.

Sorry handymanshandle,  Its to show how ultra wide gaming monitors do have draw backs.  Why pay soo much money and get black borders.  This is not ideal for people who use their computer for content as the vertical is short.  I rather just go with TVs now adays at 16:9.  21:9 might be nice for a game or two but then bammm you get issues plus your desktop suffers at 1440p vertical.  Instead of 4k and taller horizontal ya know.

Oh and the monitor is IPS on top of everything else,, for 1279 us dollar is a bargain alto made by a uknown company.

the only thing that bugs me about ultra wide is..... I can see things that are up and down as well.... not just side to side.

Dont need the screen to be extra long and god forbid it be tall as well.

Nah ultrawides are so worth it. The only thing that has black borders is Youtube videos. Otherwise movies are wide screen, well most are, I have yet to find a game that didn't support ultrawide, content creations is amazing, and finally multitasking is simply better. Right now I am working on a programming project and I have two documents open side by side without having to make the font microscopic

NO kidding I didnt know this,, so utube and nextflix are full screen uh ?  That just shed some light on me.  What about 32:9 ratior those movies will have bars right ?

I almost get the feeling that people aren't aware 4k is just an ultrawide that is taller when i read something like that

Yes 32:9 would have blackbars. But also if your monitor is IPS or VA you won't even see the monitor in a dark room. Netflix has some movies that are encoded in 16:9 which is the stupidest thing I have ever seen for a movie streaming website. But if you use the Netflix app it will zoom it in and scale it so you don't notice it. Also some Youtube do use 21:9 and also movie trailers are sometimes in 21:9 and music videos

Yeah but their aspect ratio is still 16:9. Res isn't the thing that makes an ultrawide awesome. I'd take a "4K" ultrawide anyday. But there's only like 2 on the market and are $1300+

Im just all over the place,, I like 4k res but I like gaming monitors I cant stand 60hz.  You get a gaming monitor you lose out on real estate in the desktop unless you get a Sammy 5120x1440p HDR10 QLED Freesync2 120hz. which my eye is on,, but Im scared to lose the vertical experience.

You aren't really loosing the vertical experience that much though as 1440p monitors are pretty popular at 27ins diagonally. So tops it's like 2inches of screen real estate gone

It's aspect ratio is 21:9 and even 32:9. So it's the same thing as combining 2 1440p monitors together without the bezel line in the middle and it's curved so the distance is closer to the same when looking at it from the center. 4K dictates the resolution not the physical size of the monitor. You could get a 38in ultrawide and a 27in 4K monitor and the ultrawide will have the same vertical space and a lot more horizontal space though

The emosun dude started confusing 4K as always being larger vertically as most 4K monitors, probably because most 4K monitors are larger to effectively use the extra res. So I was comparing how even though the vertical resolution is smaller and it might be more narrow there are some 4K monitors that are physically just as tall. Unless he's talking resolution real estate which wouldn't make sense then as a sub 27in 4K screen would be pointless anyways.

Its just a tough pill to swallow when my desktop is not 4k.  Why such a downgrade to 1440p just so I can play a game or two with 32:9.  The viertical of the Samsung 49" is like 15 inches,, a bit more then the conventional 27" monitor.  If wide screen is going to blow me away then heck with the resolution Ill get the upcoming CRG9 5120x1440 HDR10 Freesync 2 QLED, for 1500 dollars.

Yeah that's what you sacrifice. That's like ridiculously long ultrawides hit a diminishing returns as the extra length could be used vertically as well
