Okay, so I am upgrading from an rx 460 to a RTX 2060. I was wandering If the 2060 would be a good investment for the next 4-5 years. I only plan on gaming at 1080p 60fps (up to 120 fps, but i am perfectly fine at 60). I am aware that my current cpu is going to bottleneck the 2060, i plan on getting an i5 9400f in the fall. Also, ssd is on my mind, but it is lower on my priority list.

cpu- i5-3550 3.3GHz

gpu- rx 460 4gb

memory- 16gb ddr3

psu- 650w bronze (just got today)

storage- 500gb hdd

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3070 RAM: 32GB 3200mHz Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO Display: Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz 27" (2560p x 1440p) NVIDIA G-SYNC IPS MOBO: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK STORAGE: 120GB SSD boot drive, 10tb USB 3.0 Seagate game drive PSU: 650w Corsair CX CASE: NZXT H500i

If that PSU is any good, yes

with 9400F costing more than the 8400, there's no point in getting the cut down chip. Not to mention that's after Ryzen 3rd gen's speculated release date so the options available are completely different at that point.

since CPU money isn't coming any time soon, might as well get an SSD now. Their prices has dropped a lot over time, what was 120GB SSD money a year ago can get you a 250GB one.

You are up to some compromises if you plan on 4 years. I can't expect anything different from what i've seen in the last years.

Rewind 4 years from now and you get a 960. Which is not something to be ashamed of, it's an amazing performer, but to keep 60@1080p, you have to make serious compromises and i'm ignoring entirely the rapid growth of Real time Ray tracing, just like 4 years back then, many ignored the rapid growth in VRAM requirement. (2GB Vram in 2018/2019 is not looking good, some games won't even let you move some sliders).

Now you are in mid-high performance territory, i believe in 2 years it will be a solid mid tier performer and 4 years from now, i believe you will be lining towards a mid-low (1080p)

I'll probably get a 480gb kingston, they go for around 50 usd. HDD is all I've ever known, so i can survive a few months without. I'm sure as soon as i make the switch, i cant turn back.

No. It would be, except for one big thing. VRAM. 6gb for a card that strong is quite frankly pathetic. In 3 years time, you're talking about 8gb vram minimum. 4-5 and the stutters will be mad. We;re seeing it with horribly optimized games like black ops 4. Crazy vram usage, it's a sign of what's to come. Just recently division 2 launched, it uses up 5gb at ultra. So it's already close to 6gb now.

I recommend the vega 56 or vega 64 over the 2060. 56 may perform worse NOW. But in 3, 4 years time you'll see the benefits with that 8gb of vram and hbcc to back it up in case you run out.  Vega 56 is also a much more reasonable price than the 2060, while the 64 is slightly more expensive.(At least in Europe, not sure about US or anywhere else)

I suspect Turing is another one of those that will age badly. Vega will age very well, just like the 290x did.

While I agree with what you are saying, 350 usd is kinda my soft cap. The absolute hard cap for me is 380 usd. Where I'm at, vega 56 is going for 450 usd, although i did see one on sale for 420 usd. With my budget, vega isn't an option.

One there for 375, although you gonna have to be quick if you're interested. If not then yes go after the 2060 or the cheaper 1660ti. 1660ti suits 6gb vram unlike the 2060 which has been neglected and deserves 8gb.

Buy something cheap and second hand like an RX580 and save up for 2 years to go 1440p.

That is what I am doing and its working out well so far.

I thought about that, I was wondering if i should get a 1660 ti for 290 usd and get a copy of sekiro for 60 usd, or if i should get a 2060 for 350 usd.

Don't cheap out on a boot ssd ! I'm not familiar with Kingston SSDs but you'll want one with a DRAM cache if you plan on installing an OS on it :)

Samsung 860 Evo or even a used 850 Evo, or a Crucial MX500, or any other similar ssds will do fine - PCPP shows if an ssd has a cache, go check it out if you aren't familiar!

See if you can sell your old system (part or set, doesn't matter) and get yourself enough money to jump up a tier to Vega or possibly even a 2070 (if you save up)

To be completely honest, any "modern" GPU (barring ultra budget ones like GT 1030) will be "fine" for the next 4-5 years. I was stuck with a GTX 570 with only 1.2GB of VRAM all the way up till 2016. Where there's a will, there's a way, however, I agree with the potential VRAM bottleneck - you might have to turn down textures in the future, after all, 6 GB was once considered overkill not too long ago :)

Also, why are you getting an F-series chip? Is it significantly cheaper where you are? (Where I am you can get one for $120, holy crap)

Travel PC: Fractal Terra - Ryzen 7 5800X/RTX 3060 Ti | 16GB/1TB

I have too many computers. List here.
