Hello,

My cpu becomes too hot when i game. It causes fps drops. I used to play fortnite with 50+fps now , i cant go upto 30. I played league of legends with 100+fps but now I cant go up then 60.

Yes, I dont have fps capped at 60. Can someone tell me how to fix this. I have cleaned it, applied good thermal paste but still the issue isn't resolved. At iddle the temps are above 70 C and while gaming it goes upto 100C.
Need Help.

Were you able to before? This is a low end Dual Core CPU, with a Low end 830m Graphics chip, i dont expect this to be able to do all that much

Under "Clock Speeds" says your GPU should be 1Ghz. From your hardware monitor screenshot i see the max clock was 405Mhz. That should explain the FPS drop.

can you post GPU temp? it may be throttling. Your CPU is 90ºC but is not showing signs of throttling, it's not its fault.

@Shimejii It may be low end but I used to play most multiplayer games at 35-50 fps. But now I cant.

@trevb0t Yes the cooler is working. I have confirmed that.

@faziten that happens when I dont play game. When I start a game it goes up. When I put load on the cpu, it starts thermal throttling.

how old is your laptop?

It might be worth a shot to replace the thermal paste.

Also, how is the airflow for the bottom of the laptop.

If you have it flat on a table (or worse, on carpet or something) it will starve for fresh air, and can overheat.

What is the model of the laptop?

Its completely normal for laptops to get really hot during gaming sessions. I have a gaming laptop which has a pretty decent cooling solution and the cpu is around the 70's and 80's while gaming at low settings, I am utilizing Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. Before applying the new paste I was close to the 90's and I never game on my laptop for more than an hour at a time. My laptop specs are i7 4710hq and GTX 860m.

If you haven't tried already, invest in a dual fan laptop cooling pad. It brings my temps down slightly.

Intel Core i7 9700F / Cooler Master 212 Evo / GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER / 16 GB G.SKILL RAM @ 2666MHz / GA-B365M-DS3H / EVGA 500w PSU

HP Pavilion Gaming 15 / Ryzen 5 4600H / GeForce GTX 1050 / 8 GB @ 3200MHz

If you were once able to at much lower temps, I'd say something's wrong with the cooler.

Normally, I'd say clean out the internals of any dust and if needs be replace the cooler, but being a laptop I've no idea if you can do those things?

@Gareque I have cleaned it many times, but it does not do anything.

@Lagercat1 yes the fan is working.

@Benjeh its not the gpu that is heating it is the cpu. Even without the games, the cpu sometimes start thermal throttling even when i am just watching a video on chrome.

@belfouf yes i have cleaned it thoroughly but it doesn't do shit. Nope i did not tempered with the voltage.

Sounds like you need to check your TIM and Heatsink mounting unless your smothering the laptop in blankets or such instead of using it in the open with back raised for decent airflow.

Why cant you undervolt it?

It's a 15W CPU which usually idles with less than 1W if C-States are reported. Also check if it has any features such as "crap and quiet", or something named like that, enabled.

AWOL
