Should I overclock ? (Newbie)

As a very new newbie pc gamer , should I over clock my 8700k or leave stock

If you haven't done it before, I always encourage to do some research and then play around with overclocking. As @Jurrunio said if you are not bottlenecked, no real reason to OC, but for learning, all the more reason to.

Ima sound real stupid, but how will I kno I’m bottlenecking? My system is 

i7 8700k

16 gb Corsair dominator platinum 3600mhz 

2080 ti evga Xc if that helps

Bottleneck is when your CPU isn't able to keep up with usually your GPU. If you notice any FPS loss, stuttering, light freezes ect, you are probably bottlenecked.

You should always overclock, always. If you spent extra money on enthusiast grade parts then you should use them for their intended purpose! Do you buy a race car but instead of taking that round the track, you take the family SUV? NO!

then why not overclock? but you dont have to. Overclocking won't bring you major gains.

 

also your motherboard (mobo) and cooler will affect overclocking.

Im gonna ask a stupid question, what software is it that gives you that particular overlay, I see it used all the time but dont know what it is

Overclocking on high end modern pc (especially for gaming & cpu) is just for fun , squeezing a tiny bit of performance with lots of testing. try & error.

and you may never have the ""need"" to OC, then it became a outdated / potato pc, everything is too late, no matter how high you do OC, its already too far behind

It's a combo from MSI Afterburner + Rivatuner Statistic Server
