Micro-stutters with a good setup

I recently posted a topic asking advices about what gpu i should've buy and in the end getting a RTX 2060 card. So, with this card and the rest of the setup that i have i honestly thought that i never ever again would have problems with this tiny little stutters that were the case on my old rig. Guess what.. i was wrong.

 

I have quite a decent setup:

i7 8700
RTX 2060
16gb DDR4 of RAM
Storage on a 120gb SSD and a 500gb HD
Decent gigabyte mobo

 

Since i have this problem for a long time and even on my old pc (that I  upgraded everything, besides the HD), i highly doubt that the problem is in the hardware. The problem is more noticeable in older games and on Apex Legends. 

 

Games that it occurs frequently: CS:GO, Apex Legends, almost any other shooter..

 

Games that it never occurs or it is almost unnoticeable: Rainbow Six and Rocket League.

 

The thing is, it can't be the games, right? And.. even i can't imagine that my hardware is the problem, what leaves me with this incredibly annoying stutter that just disencourages me to play the games that i most like.

 

Some other observations:
> CPU never reaches 100% and the temps seem ok, only almost reaching 80 degrees when i play r6 (that is the game that i don't have so many problems). Other games it rarely goes above 70.
> CS:GO is instaled on SSD, and the stutters happen independent of the storage unit.
> Windows settings and NVIDIA are all set to max performance.
> I had to download an older NVIDIA driver because the newer ones would just crash on some games every single moment.
> No noticeable problems with framerate at all.
> The HD is a little faulty, but it runs well with some games that i mentioned before.

 

Any help will be highly aprecciated.

I've got a feeling this might be it.. did you reuse the drive from a previous system or was it brand new?

Previous system. 

 

What gets me about this is that the problem occurs even when i'm running games on the SSD.

Where's windows installed, and is it a fresh install or carry over from your old system?

The last change that i did was upgrading from the gtx 960 to the rtx 2060, i just uninstalled properly the old nvidia drivers and installed the new ones. I didn't do a fresh windows install.

 

One thing that's maybe worth to add is that i used the intel hd graphics for a while until i was waiting for my new card to arrive.

Maybe try ddu on both the Intel driver and the old Nvidia driver

 

Maybe unplug the HDD and test again, see if it still occurs

I will ddu the intel driver (don't remember if i actually did it when i plugged the new card) and see if anything changes. If it remains the same i will reinstall the same NVIDIA driver and return with the results.

 

Could the HDD in anyway affect games that are on the SSD? If this isn't the case i don't see the point of doing it.

I had a bad ssd cause all sorts of shenanigans once.

So the intel hd graphics were installed. I used ddu and feel the pc a little smoother already.

 

I played 20 minutes more or less of csgo and it definitely reduced the amount of microstutters, but they still apear frequently.

 

Definitely not solved, I will have more time to play this weekend and to analyse things more clearly.

 

Any update will be posted here seeing that this maybe could help someone else.

Well, sorry for reviving an old thread but I'm still hopeful that maybe someone can help me here.

 

I almost sure that i found the reason behing all of this bs, and that it has nothing to do with the gpu and yes it is all cpu related.

 

I noticed that in all the games that the stutter happens, there's always a single core/thread that almost reaches 100%.. and guess what, when this core/thread reaches it, the stutter happens.

 

So, what could I do here to fix this?

- Disable full screen optimization , override display scaling on Application

- Run ISLC

- Optional : use Razer Cortex, it's good

- Advanced: use LatencyMon to check for bad services/drivers that cause cpu spike

- Monitor the frametime, not framerte for stuttering
