Hey guys,

First of all, sorry if this is not the correct place to post this, I couldn't find a relevant section.

I'm looking to move into an IT job but need to learn a little more first.[I've built a few PC's and have some general knowledge] Does anyone have experience with a Comptia course / exam. If so how did you find the experience? And is there anything else that would be better.

It's a decent chunk of money so I wanted to get some advice first.

Thank you.

If you looking to get into IT. A+ is a great place to start as many Service Desks love A+ and ITIL. you could always buy the textbooks for the course they are sold in many book stores and amazon.

https://www.amazon.ca/CompTIA-Certification-Guide-220-901-220-902/dp/125958951X/ref=sr_1_1?crid=N27X50EWE2DL&keywords=comptia+a%2B&qid=1552337703&s=gateway&sprefix=comptia%2Caps%2C162&sr=8-1

I work in IT and oversee people who do hiring and A+ does stand out for entry level positions. The exam itself isnt "Difficult" if you have lots of experience fixing and looking at software for computers. But there will be alot of legacy stuff you will need to know. Alot of companies will have old hardware and you cannot just ignore usable technology.

Note that if your looking to go into IT, where are you looking to go into with your career? Networking? Server administration? IT companies that I communicate with usually want someone that will evolve and grow with the company.

Edit **Not relavent for poster**

Appreciate the reply, I was planning on doing the A+ and then the Networking+ once I have more experience on the job.

I'm actually based in Manchester, UK but I have seen a few places with good reviews.

I personally recommend avoiding the Networking+ and going for something like Cisco's CCENT. It teaches a lot of the same concepts, plus you have experience with Cisco equipment which is a majority of the market last I saw. That, and depending on how far you'd like to move career wise, the CompTIA A+ is really basic. I personally might get it just to have it on my resume for a bit, but never renew it once I have my better certs.

Take what I say with a spoon full of salt, though. I'm an unemployed student working towards a specialty in networking.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Ok thanks, I'll look into it, I did see some exams on Cisco / Microsoft etc but as my knowledge is really basic I'll start with Comptia A+ and go from there.
