Hi,

I am wanting to know where and what position i should install my case fans. I have a meshify C with stock fans and 2 Noctua 140mm fans.

I was thinking about putting a intake 140mm in the front, a intake 120mm at the very bottom of the front, a 120mm exhaust in the back, and a 140mm exhaust on the top.

What do you guys think I should do?

This is what I am thinking right now

Put the 140's at the front for intake and the 120's for rear / top exhaust.

Moved to Air Cooling.

Hmmm, just look through a quick review and saw this at 10:25 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KF7O58G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What do you think? He recommends putting a fan bottom front but only a 120mm fit there.

In my Meshify C TG have 2x 140mm fans as intake, 2x 120mm as exhaust (1 at the back and 1 at the top). Along with my Cryorig R1 this gives me great airflow and better thermals all-around versus when I had a 240mm AIO at the top of the case.

I'm running 2x 140 intake and a 120 at the rear in my Define C.  I didn't really notice any difference when I added a 120 in the top.

Then again the Meshify C has a less restricted intake, so you may see a small improvement by going with 4 fans.

Either way, I'd put the 140mm Noctuas in the front and one of the original fans in the rear.  Then see if the other 120 makes a difference if you mount it in the top.

He's referring to the lower fan mount still above the psu shroud and not the one furthest down which would blow air into the shroud and not so much at the graphics card.

he said "We recommend lower down" and he pointed at the bottom,  "in our configuration, we did 1 here and another here" pointing at the middle of the front

I think he just means lower on the slots since there's a bit of flexibility with the height of the mount. A 140mm mounted in the lower mount starts right above the psu shroud whereas a 120mm in the middle would have most of the airflow going above the graphics card as described.

Sorry if it's been asked before, but what purpose do you think a lower front fan serves? It's going to cool the basement of the case: are you concerned about hard-drive temps?

nah, just wanted to see some statistics of maybe affecting the cooling? anyways, based on your graphs, 2 front and 2 top seems to perform the best.

If you put a 120mm bottom front, this will blow air to PSU more than to the GPU, I think the best configuration is 2x140mm front, the PSU has its own fan to cool itself adequately, so you better focusing the top front 140mm for directing airflow to the CPU cooler and the lower front 140mm for directing airflow to the GPU just like what @JM21 have..

If you put 140mm on the upper front and 120mm on bottom front, then you'll have nothing in between them, as there will be a gap where you can't add fan on, while there is a GPU at the same height where the gap is..

You do get diminishing returns. From 2 fans to 3 gave a 7% drop in thermals, but 3 fans to 4 was 1-2% (depending on intake/exhaust config). Is an extra $20-30 for a fan worth a half degree cooler CPU and GPU?

Right, I'm just demonstrating the small increase you get versus using 3 fans. Say you have 3 fans right now: you might decrease thermals by a degree while adding noise, cables to the case, and spending money on the 4th fan. If you have four fans already and don't care about noise, by all means, I'm just letting you know what my results suggested as the sweet spot (3 fans).

Yes, I have seen that GN review. I have great GPU thermals, I barely hit over 65 degrees C (1080 Ti). The middle of my bottom 140mm fan directs air directly below my GPU, I vividly remember watching this review the first time and being confused by the GPU thermal issue Steve brought up. And as I have both bottom 3.5" hard drives cages full with a lot of cables under the PSU shroud another fan makes no sense. If you take a good look the fan goes right to the bottom of the PSU shroud, any lower and I'm blowing air at hard drives, cables, and my PSU seems pointless to me.

Same here, I have my 140mm intakes in the same position.  The bottom one is right above the PSU shroud so it blows as much air as possible into the area below the GPU, the other is also in its lowest possible position, which puts it almost perfectly in line with the CPU cooler.

My exhaust fan is also in the lowest possible position to make it align with the CPU cooler as much as possible.

Never had any issues cooling with just the rear exhaust, even when mining.  The moduvent is still on there, so it's not passively exhausting air through the top either.

Yeah at first I didn't have a top exhaust fan, but I decided to add it as I already had it from my previous setup so I figured why not, case ambient temps are slightly better. But I keep it spinning at like minimum RPM mostly, as the ideal with my CPU cooler is to promote air flow directly from the front to the back of the case.
