Is this HDD salvageable?

Falco5150

I was trying to Install win 10 on my friends laptop and the install kept crashing. So I decided to pull the hdd out of the laptop and plugged it into my pc to try to clone my boot drive to get it to work that way and the transfer hung up. after that I ran crystal disk info. uploading some screenshots since I honestly have no idea what this means.

Is this hdd salvageable or does he need a new one?

Reallocated sectors is very not good. Get all important data off of it, because it's pretty likely to fail soon, and seems like it's already failing given you couldn't clone to it.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Luckily there's nothing important on it. Guess I gotta break the bad news to my friend that it's toast though.

Thanks.

Reallocated sectors are parts of the drive that the drive finds difficult to perform read/write operations on. One or two every so often isn't really cause for concern (still monitor the drive anyway), but if it the number suddenly starts to escalate at a high rate, it's a sure sign that the drive's about to cark it.

I had a Samsung HD204UI start clicking unusually, so I pulled all the data off. Less than 48 hours later, the drive died. It did well to reach 8 years of use though, so no complaints here.

A drive with that many just needs to have data backed off and replaced. No sense in keeping it. If you do you are risking data and there is no saving the drive.

Edit:

@LunaP0n3 Samsung drives are tanks so not surprised :D
