Unknown PC issue

For a long time now, my PC will randomly turn off and then on again. No warning, not shutting down screen. Just as if someone turned off the PSU, but the lights on my motherboard stay on, and then the computer turns on again.

 

Any advice would be appreciated.

have you tried another psu

I would try and get a video of it, but it happens so randomly, I could be sat here for 30 minutes, or several days to weeks. There is not pattern to it at all

No. One thing I did try was flipping it (fan down) a while ago to see if it would improve cooling. worked for a short time, but the issue persists. something else i read online was to remove the Asus quick front IO connector, which i also did.

my guess is a faulty psu is it still under warranty?

I built the PC summer of 2016, so possibly. Bought all of the parts from Overclockers.

My bigger issue though is that I have A levels coming up soon and I need my PC, so I can't do any major hardware changes until the summer

try find a cheap used psu if you can

Sounds almost exactly when my PSU was dying, except I sometimes got BSOD mixed in too, so didn't think it was PSU at the time... luckily by the time my PSU went POP! it was my backup system and I was just using it for testing.

Ok. So far I haven't had any BSODs with this issue. I really want it to not be the PSU, given that it is only just coming up to 3 years old. Just got my fingers crossed it will hold out till the summer when I can properly do some maintenance.

How long has the issue been occurring?

dont know exactly, but maybe around 6-12 months

No changes in OC, hardware etc?  if so, then I'd say PSU is most likely culprit, but if you have an OC, try dialing it back or going stock even to see if it still does it.

No OC. Dont even know what my RAMs running at.

Don't think it's RAM anyway personally. I'd get another PSU if it was me and needed the PC working reliably, even just a cx450/550 should be fine. Troubleshooting is hard sometimes, especially if you don't have any spares to use. Unless you have a friend that can lend you a PSU for a little while it's a case of going with the most likely suspect.
