I will finally make an upgrade to my PC, I have an old FX8120. I will probably get a MSI Tomahawk Motherboard but I can't decide which CPU, I was going to get the ryzen 5 2600, but now I see that the ryzen 7 1700 is $5 more expensive than the 2600. Should I get the ryzen 7 1700 or maybe spend a little bit more and get something better? My budget is around $180 for the CPU.

For me, I had upgraded from a Ryzen 5 1600 to a Ryzen 7 2700 at Christmas time.  While gaming, the differences are not noticeable between the two.

For other things I do, it was a nice improvement.

But as asked, can you wait a few months for the Ryzen 3000 series chips?  That should be a VERY nice improvement.  :)

I've had my cpu since 2012 so I think upgrading even to a ryzen 5 1600 should be a HUGE upgrade BUT I think I'll probably wait until 3rd gen because I think I will regret it if I don't do it haha.

Wise choice.  :)

What's funny is that my wife told me to make a wishlist on Amazon for things I wanted for Christmas.  I had put the 2700 on that list.  A couple days later when I caught wind about the Ryzen 3000 chips coming out soon, I had removed it from the list.  So that would have meant she ordered it as soon as I made the list.  lol  I wasn't expecting it.  :)

I think I will be upgrading again when they come out though.

Wow, now I have stress. I probably should do that.

i mean there's no stress if u can wait, just wait, the jump is huge and zen 2 will make zen + garbage tier. It's rarely this clear cut on whether waiting for next gen is worth it.
