First, sorry if I don't put this in the good section...

Context:  As of right now, we always have, at least,  three copies of all my data:  One on pcs/laptops, one on a NAS we have at home and a third that is, basically, two extra hardrives I have for the NAS that I swap, on a monthly basis or less depending of activities during the month, and put in a security deposit box at the bank.  It worked well over my many years, never lost significant amount of data,  but I'm tired of this method.

Since we use our computers mainly to store multimedia stuff like family pics ans some videos, I never felt the need to buy a server or something like that.  Ever since the NAS arrived on the market, it worked very well for us.  Before them, it was extra hardrives that we would fill regularly...  After talking with some family friends, I got the idea of offering an "exchange": NAS for them in our house and them for us in their house.  Basically, , it would look like this:

The set-up is really easy, using cloud access but, if I'm ready for them to see some our stuff, and they are ready to let us see some of their stuff (like movies and series and data like that), I'm not ready to give acces to everything so, I would like to put a part of the data behind a solid password system.  It would look something like this:

So, after this lintroduction, here is my question:  What software (a one-time-buy please, not a subscription type) would offer us the possibility to put the data behind a password?  It is important to note that I don't want to create a locked archive that will need to be entirely replace everytime we make our back-ups.  Just a single folder that need a password to opened.

The lights of peoples knowledgable as you are would be really appreciated.  Like the LMG vids a lot and folloqing them for some time now.

Cordially

I looked into it but since the NAS is on "the other's" network, they have admin power on it by default (for what I saw) and, if I can "resolve" most issues myself when it comes down to our computers, I'm not a tech savy who knows tons of stuff, especially on networking.

Also, We use Win7 at our house and they have Win10.

Found this method while looking around, anybody if this "sounds right"?  (My knowledge is too limitied to even guess if it feels right or not...)

https://operating-systems.wonderhowto.com/how-to/lock-folder-without-any-software-with-password-0150639/  After looking at it a bit closer, if someone do an edit on the file and "knows the trick", he can find the password easily so, no....
