Low sound in headset

I got a pair of Sennheiser PC37X that I have plugged into the back of my PC. The thing is though, that the sound is extremely low. I can crank it up to volume 100 in Windows 10 and still feel like it's missing volume. Have I done something in Windows that's the cause of this or do I just need a AMP?

My motherboard is a X99 Strix Gaming.

Have you tried connecting it to the front jacks of the case?

Many a motherboard i've had has a really weak OPAMP chip wired to the back ports for only line-out purposes while the real OPAMP destined to amplify headphones/headsets is wired to the front ports.

Considering the fact that the PC37X is destined for PC use it really shouldn't need a dedicated amp.
