Possible performance problem with RTX 2080ti

Hello All,

I've recently installed an RTX 2080ti on my system (custom waterloop, the card is the Aorus Xtreme Waterforce). I haven't been able to completely test the system however, I have done a clean OS install (W10, most recent update) and almost every game I play there is have some kind of stuttering (short bursts).

 

I have a precise example: when playing Far Cry New Dawn, which when I start the game I've between 95-130 FPS, but after some time, it appears that there is some kind of throttling where the FPS start to oscillate from low 60s to 100. However, according to my temperature readings they don't go past the 65 ºC and the core clock is stable at 2080 (PSU power draw 220W). 

 

My system specs are:

Screen Resolution 1400p (Monitor mg279q, freesync)

Ryzen 1700X OC @ 3.8 - 1.35V

16 GBs RAM @ 3200 14-14-14-32

PSU Seasonic Focus+ 750W

OS: Windows 10 with the most recent updates

I'm sorry mate but a Ryzen 7 1700X is not exactly the best pair for a RTX 2080 Ti, bottlenecking is to be expected

What @Melndescribes is not an indication of bottlenecking. 

 

Meln, which motherboard do you have? The VRM-s might be throttling.

EDIT: my CPU cooler is the MSI Frozr XL.

Do you have the BIOS 7A35v1B or newer?

If not, flash the latest bios.

 

The VRM is ok. You might try having a fan blow air on the VRM cooling just to try and see if the performance drop is there.
