Windows Optimization guide to nail down excess?

Could maybe drive idle usages Down a little..

Depends how deep you dive into that I spose.

I mean things like drivers or little apps should take 0 percent.  I have 17 icons in my tray and they don't use no CPU, they just in RAM ya know.

Also might as well close browsers as they can interfere with your gaming experience.  Just exit apps,, leave tray alone unless there is something in there taking up CPU cycles.

Id still want hyperthreading on a new system...

Paired with a 2080ti for extreme examples.

I've watched 8c8t and 6c6t being tapped natively a lot (not 95-100% but it got up there) but a lot with high usages in Multicore titles...

To which I say 2080ti was overkill for the 1440p testing done..

Like a 2080/1080ti is overkill for 1080p Gaming.

Pushing more than required will drive up CPU usages, hence why people say set an FPS cap to reduce usages.

Maybe I was wrong in what I saw and maybe rushed the conclusion..

But check whatever CPU against typical usage scenarios before you plan to buy before purchase obviously.

Seeing 6c6t fully tapped makes me want Hyperthreading on every CPU.

But is 12 threads really that much better than 8 real cores? I'll have to do some more research I suppose...

750w is overkill.  550 to 600w is the sweet spot and make sure its gold rated.  You can get the Corsair CX550m bronze rating will do and modular.  For 60 bucks.

Yeah I'll see what the best one I can get for a good price is...

I don't think I understand what you mean? How can I optimise windows?

I don't mind tinkering if it means I get better performance...

Well 8 cores would give you 16 threads.  Right now 16 threads is a over kill for gaming.  The sweet spot is a 6 core 12 thread CPU like the 8700k.

It's about dialing back some of the Windows internal apps always running in background apps and little tricks to hopefully ease CPU idle and load usages by some few percent or so...

Tech Yes City channel on YouTube has some Windows 10 tweaking guides, and other channels do too..

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

The 9700k does not have hyperthreading...

So it's

8700k (6 cores 12 threads 3.7ghz / 4.7ghz turbo)

9700k (8 cores 8 threads 3.6ghz / 4.9ghz turbo)

And I'm not sure which one to get because of that... I've also heard that the 9700k has better thermals and overclocks better, so that's always a good thing...)

Oh right... Thanks I'll give them a shot and see if I can get any good progress... Although im pretty sure I might have tried some of these before.

Personally, I would go for the i5 9600k. A lot of others would prefer a cpu with hyperthreading but its really not required. In a lot of cases you will receive better performance with hyperthreading off unless you have a lot of background tasks running. If gaming is your thing, 6 cores and 6 threads is the sweet spot.

The reason I would choose the 9600k over the 8600k is because it runs at a slightly higher frequency and is the newest generation so it will hold its value longer, and its currently on sale. The longer you wait, the more your current setup will depreciate in value.

Intel Core i7 9700F / Cooler Master 212 Evo / GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER / 16 GB G.SKILL RAM @ 2666MHz / GA-B365M-DS3H / EVGA 500w PSU

HP Pavilion Gaming 15 / Ryzen 5 4600H / GeForce GTX 1050 / 8 GB @ 3200MHz

I do content creation in premiere sometimes too thats why i was considering the i7 or even i9... I do have quite a few background stuff on my pc installed that run in the tray.

I also would like to start streaming at some point, so i want to be ready for that.

Ah I see, With tasks like that then an i7 is the way to go. I would take the 8700k over the 9700k in that case due to the 9700k's lack of hyperthreading and it's ridiculously overpriced, here in Canada anyway.

Hmm thanks... Here they are exactly the same price (£389) And the 9900k is £90 more. Do you think it's worth it? Would you still get the 8700k?

If they were evenly priced then I would take the i7 9700k

If you have the disposable cash to spend then for sure go for it. But the i9 9900k in my opinion, is quite a bit of overkill for most consumers.

Thanks... I think right now the biggest problem is cooling the 9900k and the extra power and motherboard price it'll require... Probably I'll end up with the 9700k...
