I'm planning a micro atx and the cpu I'm getting is the i5-4670K and I will be overclocking. Looking for motherboards on pcpartpicker, I don't know which chipset to look for. I heard Z87 was the best, but why? How does it compare to B85, H81, H87, and Q87? I'm looking for a mobo with no color scheme (black, white, gray)

z87 is the newest, so it's going to support newer stuff. But if it works, it's good. What separates high end mobos from low end is the FEATURES.

There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary, and those who don't.

The Z87 Chipset is designed to overclock more then any other. The other chipsets are designed for lower power use that you would find with stock clocks or with the average consumer.

H87 and Z87 are really the only relevant ones.  The only difference is that Z87 allows overclocking.  That being said most decent boards are Z87 anyway, only low end boards use H87.

It's more of a chipset difference. All processors on the LGA 1150 socket aka Haswell are all compliant and compatible with the x8x chipset.

Just summarizing here. Socket and chipset are different things. One socket (LGA775/1155/1150) have several different chipsets. Chipsets differ in features and one socket might have several generations of chipset, each generation bringing new features.

You are going for K-marked CPU and want to OC. So your chipset would be Z87 and socket on Haswell 1150.

I know that socket and chipset aren't the same, that's why I asked about chipset. I'm getting the 4670K, it's an 1150 socket like you said

I thought so, but title was bit misleading so... By reading just title its sometimes hard to tell what you actually mean and know.
