Which NAS drives are most quiet?

Hello guys,

I am getting a NAS enclosure and now I am choosing drives for it. Because I am going to keep NAS in my bedroom I want to get quiet drives. I heard that WD RED performs quite well in terms of noise, but unfortunately those drives are 20% more expensive than Ironwolf or Toshiba N300. Can anyone recommend better/cheaper solutions than WD RED?

Do you need the drives on 24/7? If not, you can just shut down you NAS when you aren’t using it.

There really aren't hard drives out there designed to be quiet. Your best bet would probably be any lower RPM (not 7200) drives, although even those get noticeable when you have a few of them. At least in my area WD Red and Ironwolf drives are about the same price and either of those would be great. You could use WD Blue drives, despite not being built for running 24/7 they should be okay.
