I'm looking to build another sleeper PC - this time in a PowerMac G4 Quicksilver. The case design mandates that the psu must be either semi or non-modular, the latter being preferred, and the power plug MUST be side mounted as opposed to being mid-mounted and must be in the same aspect ratio relative to the PSU itself, and not rotated 90 degrees. The CX450(M) has caught my eye as these two SKUs fit the bill nicely, the 450 more so than the 450M due to the bracket the PSU is mounted onto. My question is: is there any PSU on the market that is either better in this class that can still fit the case and are there any quality PSUs that still have a rear fan instead of a top fan?

These pics should give you an idea why I'm looking for what I'm looking for:

Here's what the bracket looks like: http://i0.wp.com/www.applerescueofdenver.com/wp-content/uploads/qs-ps-bracket.jpg?fit=800%2C600

I know that this seems like a jump backwards but for a case from 2003, there is no other option for me as I want the outside to look untouched. I didn't expect this to be as hard as it is - am I relegated to budget or no name PSUs?

You aren't going to find a new rear mounted fan PSU that are actually worth getting. Decent old stuff, like the Antec TruePower Quattro do exist, but I wouldn't recommend buying a used PSU, especially one that's a decade old.

So not really. Maybe a SFX PSU, with an ATX adaptor might be good for your build?

There are some ATX PSUs with a rear fan, such as the Antec Earthwatts Green

But none fit your specific power plug requirement, or they aren't very good quality.

There's only so much a small fan can do.

It seems the only power supplies that comply to your requirements are the Corsair CX / CXM grey label, and the Zalman Goldrock.

The GoldRock is a dated design, but still quality. http://translate.google.com/translate?depth=1&hl=es&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://www.easycom.com.ua/power/zalman_zm750-xg/%3Flang%3Dru

Not to launch into dangerous territory, but can you remove that PSU and open it up and compare it next to a more desired PSU opened up? You may find that the actual power supply board and outputs are swappable between PSU cases. With few exceptions every normal sized PSU I've opened used the same sized board and board mounting scheme, with some solder you could re-purpose the Mac specific PSU case with some better internals. The only catch I've sometimes seen is a rear fan PSU vs top fan PSU there may be board interference with the rear fan/top fan if you're swapping PSU cases.

Yeah, I'd rather not go down that route - just dealing with 12/24v PSUs for 3d printers and leds already are sketch enough for me :D
