Buying used PC

boooysti

I’m planning on buying a used PC off of craigslist. I got the guy to go from 650 to 580$, but is it a decent deal? I prefer intel so I don’t know much about AMD, and the GPU is only 3gb (so is my 899$ PC so no worries), but the motherboard is what I am confused about since there is a million Asrock 970 models. Any thoughts?

CPU: AMD FX-6300 @ 3.5Ghz (never overclocked) w/ Cooler Master Hyper T2 and thermal paste
RAM: 12GB DDR3
GPU: Gigabyte Windforce OC 780ti (triple fan design)
MOBO: Asrock 970 chipset
Storage: 120GB SSD(boot), 1.5TB total HDD(game library & misc. storage)
PSU: EVGA 850BQ semi-modular
Case: Cougar MX330-X w/ 5x120mm fans, 1x200mm fan, and a fan controller for top and front fans (4 total)

In short no.You can build better pc for 600$ new.Fx processors were never good, high power consumption and a lot of heat.Gtx 780ti is worse than rx570 which cost ~160$ new.

Here is new pc build with rx 570 for 566$ if you want you can swap gpu for rx 580 which is still a decent card nowadays.Or more ram...you have some budget left.

My PC --- CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x @ 4.3 || MoBo: Asus strix x470-F || RAM:32GB@3400mhz  4x8GB Corsair vegeance pro RGB || Cooler: Corsair H150i Pro AIO || GPU: Sapphire Rx5700 XT nitro+ || PSU: Corsair rm750i || Case: Thermaltake TG 31 RGB || SSD: 1x hp ex900 nvme 500gb 3x crusial mm500 1tb || Corsair M65 elite & Corsair platinum K95 || 2x Acer ed323 qura 1440p@144hz + Samsung c27fg70 1080@144hz.tb

Overall it's a cheap PC, FX is not a great CPU line but for light gaming this PC can handle it. Only thing is you're locking yourself in to an old platform when you can get this:

So yeah that PC is worth like $350, maybe $400.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Not a good deal imo.

The FX series AMD processors are very antiquated now. The oldest you should be looking, and lowest performance u should aim for, is 2nd gen i series intel. i.e i7 2600k.

AMD side, its Ryzen or nothing.

780ti's are also barely worth $100 used. So overall i'd say its probably actualy worth $400 at most.

Bassed on the orignal asking price i'd have to say the guy/gal selling it doesnt want to admit how little that system is actualy worth, or knows full well and is trying to rip someone off.

CPU: Intel i7 3930k w/OC & EK Supremacy EVO Block | Motherboard: Asus P9x79 Pro  | RAM: G.Skill 4x4 1866 CL9 | PSU: Seasonic Platinum 1000w Corsair RM 750w Gold (2021)|

I understand that both of these builds are better, however I’m somewhat willing to pay for it being already built. I’m not big into the idea of building my own until after I start upgrading one until i get a pretty basic know how of everything. Later I will take out the GPU and Processor (maybe the motherboard?). But yeah of course I could build one cheaper, but as a prebuilt is it worth it for now?

That prebuilt wouldn't be worth it for that price. Trust me, learning how to build a PC is pretty easy, and there is a wealth of guides online for you. You'd really be willing to pay $200 for the system to be built for you? I'd say if you couldn't get this PC for $450 then it's not money well spent.

I didn’t see your response until after I replied to the other guys, but I’m going to upgrade it later on. I got pictures of the case, and its about an 80$ case. So 400+80. Then the power supply is nicer than some the other guys posted. So im paying like 60$ extra for it being prebuilt

No it isnt worth it,if you would eventually upgrade you need to swap out CPU,mobo, ram and GPU.You can buy decent prebuilt from newegg for 500$ and add GPU.

The PC you're looking at is horrible value. Period. It makes no sense to buy it, then upgrade it later on, as you'll be replacing pretty much anything anyway (the RAM won't work in newer motherboards, the CPU socket has no upgrade path). Building a PC is easier than putting together a set of LEGO. There's really no excuse to not build your own, other than sheer laziness.

The scale im going to be upgrading it is over years. I was going to use it as a secondary. What’s really confusing is the fact that in another thread I posted, I asked about my personal PC, which cost 899$, it had about the same GPU, lower storage, no real case fans, a worse power supply, a stock Mobo, and it only had better CPU and RAM really. You guys all said it was a fine PC, but now that i ask a similar question, i get a vastly different reaction. Its a little confusing

If it was $899 and you bought it many years ago, it was probably a decent deal. Currently? Not a chance.

Times change, parts get better, pricing drops.

I don't see how you can possibly think that, at the same price, this system makes any sense over something new.

If you mean 2018, then it wasn't a good deal.

Especially if it had an FX processor.
