Why was the 390x so fast and the 480,580,590 so slow?

Rebrand workstation? 290x is a rebrand of workstation GPU.

When was the last time we get 50% performance increase every 6 months?

That wouldn't be possible sir, even the best 290x barely reach 1.5Ghz and that card consumed almost 800w iinm.

Probably around geforce 8000 series all the way back to  TNT 1 was when we were getting 50 percent every year or so.

I have 2 way crossfire and performs the same as my old 290x

AMD cards have always been a joke but the only good thing is the price, not gonna pay $700 ($2700 where I live) for a 2080Ti just because of ray tracing.

The Civic Si is no Camaro SS, but it sure beats the hell out of the Cruze.

My point is that just because the 580 can't compete with the 2080 ti doesn't mean it's bad, it means you are comparing the wrong products.

AMD is dominating the mid range in both CPU and GPU fronts; that is quite the accomplishment imo.

Yeah, they get highly more complex and more expensive each die shrink. It's gonna be much slower now since we've reached 7nm.

What is mid range?  Is there even a mid range GPU anymore?  I feel like the 580/590 is low end now think about it.

Cards that are still produced today it is near the bottom.

2060, 2070, 2080, 2080 ti, titan, Vega VII are all faster.

That is pretty far down the list.  Not sure if Vega 64 and Vega 56 are still in production or not, Nvidia only has a couple of cards slower than it that are still in production.

IMO 1080p 60fps is mid range.

IMO Vega 64 is upper mid range, and competes in between RTX 2060 and 2070. These are ass 1080p high refresh/1440p 60/4k 30 capable cards.

Mid range means middle of the pack to me.  They are not middle of the pack anymore they are near the bottom,  they used to be mid range 1 year ago.
