Hello everyone.
I am new to the forum, and just a few moths i start view and eating the LTT videos.
I am from Portugal, and I have an old pc ( all my money can have ).

The board is Asus P5Q3 Deluxe wifi
CPU: Xeon x5460 converted to 775
Memory: g-skill sniper 2x4gb ddr3
VGC: 2x XFX5850 1gb ddr5

The thing is that i startet just now overcloocking the cpu, and now w8ting for some watercooling ML240L 240mm radiator because i am afraid of the temps.

I mainly use the PC for photoshop and render, but i am feeling that it runs a litle slower rendering the photos, could it be botleneck or is just the pc that is too old?

I apreciatte all the help and time for reading this.

sorry for my english i kwon it´s a litle broken.

Most likely, that Xeon is from 9 years ago, and your graphics cards are from about the same time. Hopefully the overclock helps, I know that photoshop likes a faster CPU.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Depending on support, more memory will help, not much, but a bit. Your system is very old and at the limit of CPU speed.

An SSD for photo storage/rendering would help a bit too, depending on size of your images.

BTW, your English is fine.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

i would recommend a good LGA 771 board (if your case can use it) and a X5355 (unless you want to use a mod)

I have 2 X5355s and they work like a charm

But I have an x5460 it has a base clock of 3.16ghz the one you say it's a bit slower... I'm I missing something?

Well i was wrong, but if you can spare 16$ on a motherboard you can get 2 x5355 and get a CB score of 7** (* - something) but i dont know if you want to go that route

  • 1 year later...

What MB would people recommend to purchase, not too costly, for the Xeon 5460?

I have an old one, some 1600 memory, the CPU, and a case.  I hate to throw it away so figured I'd make it as powerful as it can be, considering, for an older secondary machine.

Also what is entailed in this 771/775 conversion?  Is it done to the CPU or the MB?
