Just plug in the 8 pin EPS power connector and call it a day. It's likely that that 4 pin is just optional

The PSU might have two EPS 8-Pin connectors that you can divide each into 4-pin. If it does not, don't worry, you have two options - simply using only the 8-pin and nothing additional and the second option - a cheap molex to EPS adapter.

An 8 pin EPS alone can provide about 300 W before being overloaded. So unless you're dry ice overclocking a 9900K or water cooling a threadripper/9980XE you basically can't overload a single 8 pin.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Shit happens, just don't use the 4pin and call it a day...

The extra 4pin connector is just a dick waving contest that motherboard manufacturers now do.

Look at most X58, X79 and X99 motherboards (Intel's 6/8 core platforms from 2009 to 2015). Notice how most of them only have an 8pin connector, and look at the VRM heatsink on them, and compare it with your board; Your motherboard's VRM is more aesthetic than functionality, and those boards VRMs are pretty decent.

So theres less heatsink, so the VRM cannot handle as much power, yet more power connectors. And to add to that, CPUs are getting more efficient. It seems more counterintuitive; because it is. It's just design over functionality.
