Games Stuttering

renchy_is_sketchy

So just today my games started stuttering all of a sudden. At first i thought it was just apex legends but i tried r6s and the same problem persisted...

I recently updated my AMD RX 580 drivers to the optional 19.2.1 as a fix to the apex legends crashes but that didnt fix anything it just made every game worse by making every game stutter...

I guess an option is to downdate my amd drivers ?

uninstall them all using DDU, then reinstall them all again. see if a fresh download fixes it.

Yep, that would be the first step. Use DDU to fully uninstall the current drivers and install an older version and see if that solves your performance issue. Could just be a bad driver update.

I just rolled back my drivers with device manager but i guess i need to do as you both think , thats probably the better idea anyways.

And cant i just use amd cleanup utility?

DDU is the best way to go to completely remove any old conflicting drivers and files and install fresh and new. This has been confirmed to fix peoples issues with the new drivers 19.2 from what ive seen and had people test with.

Err, I don't know. I've never used it before so I'm not sure how thorough it is. I'd recommend using DDU just got the sake of thoroughness and knowing that it's pretty reliable at cleaning up everything.

I'd probably do what @TH3R34P3R said and after running DDU install the same driver version that you're currently running (the latest, downloaded from AMD website), and seeing if just reinstalling it fresh fixes it. If you're still having performance issues after that, DDU again and try with an older version.

its an issue of wattman , had the same with a rx480 (stock) , I've noticed not steady frequency (like jumping , if I remember correcly, from 1400mhz to 1350 etc , every bump a stutter) Searching for clues on wattman settings just allowing to draw up to 50% more power fixed that (its at 0% you can change up to -50% or +50%) those makes steady frequency with variable power , 0 stutters since then, that rx 480 was 1 year on my setup, almost 1 year mining and now with a 4790k on a friend's rig , now rocking better than on my setup.

Monitor your frequency while gaming

removed my drivers with amd clean up utility , downloaded 19.1.1 ... problem persists in video games. I didnt check with the other drivers but with these even CSGO the game you would most expect to lag is stuttering on unplayable levels.

Just had an idea to remove drivers again , and use the auto detect and install drivers on the amd driver website so maybe that could find the correct drivers , but i think thats a waste of time. Just going to build a new pc (with same gpu (it was used(by a miner)) at the end of exams and have a ''fresh'' ? start.

Any last ideas? Im almost certain that its got something to do with faulty drivers

I mean i can try removing the drivers again and doing what i planned?

DDU removes everything. in safe mode, you can get rid of even the base drivers and start fresh.

Is safe mode necessary ? And is secure mode the same as safe mode because thats the only setting i could find on my BIOS?

Ok Did not work.

I dont know how to fix this , i went back to the same drivers that had no issues after: 1. Using AMDs clean up utility , reinstalling drivers , failed (still stutters) , 2.After using DDU , reinstalling drivers , failed (still stutters) , but the driver version that was working fine now is also malfunctioning ( if this is indeed driver related)

Ive given up and this is pretty much my last attempt of making it somehow work out again.

RX580   19.1.2 ---> 19.2.1 (stutters) ----> 19.2.2 (stutters) ----> 19.1.1 (stutters) ----> 19.1.2 (stutters but im tired of doing this so im sitting on this for the moment)

Is this happening with all games or certain ones?  Also, what is your cpu and how much ram do you have?

Every game ive tested , (R6s , csgo , apex legends (+crashing in apex) , guild wars 2 in single player games its not that noticable but its still there)

Ive got an E5 1607 v2 and 16gb of DDR2 ram (i think)

I was not expecting ddr 2 or a cpu from q3 of 2013.  Honestly, everything in my head is pointing to this being the issue, but i'm not able to test that for myself to confirm.

The only thing that I noticed with the most recent driver is that my OC that I previously had stopped running stable.

It was a virus , that windows couldnt detect. Unhackme did the job. Dont talk bad about my old cpu lol
