Dt-990 pro 250 ohms amp?

Go to solution Solved by Firewrath9,

You don't need an amp, but it helps. My secondary headphones (598 Closed back) can get to painful levels without a dac and using the built in audio.

I have been looking to upgrade from my 3 year old Logitech g930. I have read that "real headphones" sound a lot better, but i have no experience. So what type of an amp do i need or do i even need an amp? I have sensitive hearing so are they loud enough? I really don't really have any knowledge about this topic.

Do you already have the headphones? If not I don't recommend starting here.  Get a pair of sennheiser hd 6xx or 5sx's first.

Try using the PSU Tier List!

Most devices cant drive 250ohm headphones at an acceptable volume level

There is much more to it than just the ohm rating. The 250 Ohm DT990s are incredibly easy to drive. My ears would start bleeding deaf if I cranked the volume to the max on my 250Ohm DT990s -- whether the source be an old iPhone 5s, 6s+, X, MBP, SP3, or MSI Z87s SLI Plus.

I seriously doubt is actually 250ohms, its probably overrated.

a ALC1220 or the creative sound core3d or whatever it is should be perfectly fine.

I mean it's not just ohms, its that and input power, I just don't know the dt 990s specifically, but normally under 100ohms is easy to drive for mobile devices and over that it just depends on the brand and the specific set of cans.

And DT990s happen to be incredibly easy to drive because the ohm rating isn't all that meaningful without knowing the rest of the details.

Get the DT880. The DT990 is really painful to listen to because the treble is insane. 880 is a way better headphone.

These seem out of my price range in my country. They might be cheaper in other countries, but i don't want to risk international shipping on items over 130€
