Ryzen 7 (GEN 2) Causing Ram Problems?

Now, this is a friends problem, so my responses with extra details may be slow.

 

My friend just built a new gaming system. Ryzen 7 Gen 2 (i dont know the exact model) and 16GB of 3200MHz RAM, but he says its only performing at like 2144MHz. Its on a Gigabyte Aorus B450 board, again, dont know the exact model. Any ideas? I know gen 1 Ryzen was pretty picky when it came to RAM, did that stay a thing with gen 2?

has it been set at the rated speed in the bios?

If you're formally an engineer, avoid responsibility. That's what senior engineers get paid for.

2 Things
1. Did he actually set the RAM clock speed higher in the BIOS? It doesn't happen automagically if you want your RAM to run above the stock speed you need to go in and manually edit the speed to whatever your sticks are rated for
2. Is he on the latest BIOS revision? I had issues getting my RAM to run at full speed on a Ryzen 7 1700 B350 until I downloaded the latest available BIOS and then was able to set it no issue.

Did he install the RAM in the slots the manual instructs to use?  That happens frequently.
