So I have seen "Folding" been thrown around on this forum ever since I joined. What is it? How does "Folding" work and what does it do? Thanks for all the help!

 

It's a software application that uses your computer's spare CPU power when you're not using it to run protein folding simulations, the data from these calculations helps medical research.  With hundreds of thousands of people's computers running this software and working together, it effectively creates a supercomputer out of nothing to help with this research.  The more people contribute, the better.

This might be a stupid question but do you get anything in return? I remember seeing something similar to this but it rewarded you with their own crypto currency for contributing to their research.

Nope, just the feeling that you did something good for the world and humanity.
