Windows detects 4GB RAM out of 8GB?

Od1sseas

Windows actually detects that i have 8GB (BIOS also shows 8GB) but i can only use 4GB? I tried cleaning CMOS and reinstalling Windows (Clean Install), but still the same.

you are right in thinking this, and i do think it exists, but i still thought it could go to 8gb of ram even with 32 bit.

Yes there's still 32bit Windows 10 versions out there but I doubt this is it as it's very rare to come by it nowdays.

When memory gets label as "Hardware Reserved" it's because while the system was able to detect it it couldn't use it... trying different DIMMS, both sticks individually and trying both in single and dual channel should be first troubleshooting steps.

Windows Task Manager is awful to display correct 'clocks' but it's usually extremely accurate with memory usage since it's integrated with the system allocation altogether.

Have you tried using them individually? in both instances 4gb worked? when trying other DIMS with both sticks, did you try going Single Channel?

You could have too much pressure on the CPU caused by tightening up the Cooler far too much, excessive pressure first issue caused on the CPU is usually malfunctioning IMC which can lead to it only managing to sustain 1 channel opposed to 2.

Looks like 4GB is hardware reserved while many pieces of hardware can do this it's more than likely your GPU. Check your BIOS to see if there's an option to set reserved memory for your GPU.

I cannot find the setting. I looked everywhere but I don't believe there isn't any option for that

you are probably reffering to the iGPU.

those are automatically dissabled when a GPU is detected. and they are usually limited to 2GB. and if you reffering to pagefiling, that would be dynamic.

go through checkin each memmory stick in each slot seperatly. you might have a doa board or doa memmory stick. though will have to be checked through testing.

Why? This looks like even more a hardware issue, these A320 boards are the worse ever made in recent PC hardware history.

BIOS Update maybe? who knows, it might as well be faulty.

You actually put up a decent build, R5 2600 and RX 580 is great, why cheap up 10 dollars and grab the worse motherboards money shouldn't buy brand new right now.

you CPU doesnt have iGPU so this is to be expected. you need a GPU to get anything on-screen

i think it should be much the same as with the b450m S2H (which i have), u can disable the APU in the bios, then there should be no ram reserveed anymore for your APU. - you can also specify only 1gb to be used for the APU

Can you tell me where did you find that setting in the BIOS?
