Drives not showing in Disk Managment nor Device Manager

Hi,

 

So I bought a new 1tb seagate drive because I needed more space. Should have been a simple install but now im in a stupid situation. I have an asrock z97 extreme 3 with existing 256gb ssd (windows 10 boot drive) and 1tb hdd.

 

Initially plugged in the new drive with power and sata3. Saw it appear in my BIOS, but when I went into Windows (device manager, disk management, and diskpart: list disk) it wasn't showing up. Was weird so I did a quick google search and ended up trying a different SATA port and running a separate power cable from psu. Neither worked. Oh well, I will just return to amazon and ask for a new one. No big deal. -BUT during the process I ended up removing my already existing 1tb hdd, and booting. When reconnecting and rebooting back into windows, I dont see the drive anymore. It shows in my bios, but again, nowhere in windows. I can get my data off using another computer but I can't be adding any new drives with this problem. Below is a snapshot of seeing only my boot drive even though I have old ssd and hdd connected with both showing in bios.

Looks like you opened a can of worms.  Go into safe mode and see what drives you see under there, then report back.  Well fix you up no worries.

And it shows up in BIOS? That's baffling. Maybe you will need to download some chipset drivers? Check ASRock's support page for the motherboard and look for them. If that doesn't work I would try a Linux live USB and see if the drive is visible from there. If it still isn't there I'm out of ideas, try more SATA ports?

Thanks for the reassurance. Love the rush and cold sweat when something turns the wrong way. Booted into safe mode and I do see my drive in file explorer. What steps to take from here.

Lol. So after the safe boot and back into normal I see my drive again. Is it worth it to press further? It's a quirk I'm ok dealing with hahaha.

I had the same problem a month ago. This fixed it for me:

My fix was purely by accident. I was in Admin Tools and saw "Memory Diagnostic Tools" and clicked on it as I've never seen it before.

After Windows rebooted after the test, all my drives were there!

ran this with my new drive conencted. magically worked. Thanks everyone. so much respect for people helping others on forums.
