Hello LTT Community,

I've been watching Linus' videos for a long time but this is my first time using his forum for a question.

I am a huge Mac guy, I know make fun of me all you want, but I've loved learning about hardware and how it all works. If I could get MacOS on a PC I would 100% build my own PC.

With that said, my question is specific to Apple's Late 2015 27" iMac 5k (Model: A1419).
This iMac has 4 RAM slots but all the RAM upgrade kits come with 2 slots and are dual channel. If I buy 2 dual channel kits, would my computer get quad channel performance or would it be bottled to dual channel? I can max my RAM out at 32GB so I was thinking of getting four 8GB CORSAIR sticks (two 16gb dual channel kits).

The link to the RAM I'm thinking about buying is: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16820233251

(if that has more specifications or details that would be helpful to you answering my question)

Thanks so much, I look forward to reading your feedback.

Best,

Will

It would run at dual channel. It's a chipset level spec not a ram spec. When a ram kit is labeled as dual or quad channel memory, it simply means that kit has been validated to work together. If you put 2 dual channel kits or a single quad channel kit into the computer it will run at dual channel bandwidth.
