Help regarding lag on my brand new laptop at startup.

So, I bought a brand new laptop (HP Pavilion 15-c0053cl)

SPECS: i5 8th Gen/12GB RAM/1TB HDD/Win 10

This is pretty good. But for some reason the startup is a nightmare it lags soooooo much. The apps work fine afterwards. I have tried disabling as many startup apps I can leaving only the necessary once Enabled. The startup utilization is also not high(RAM 15 to 20%). Does anyone know anything about this ? Help.

1) That's a very bad RAM configuration because your RAM is running in SDR Mode (single data rate) because you have 12 GB which means  they are not in matching paris (ie. 2x4GB = 8GB or 2x8GB = 16GB). It is beyond me why some manufacturers use these stupid configurations just to market the laptop as having higher RAM in the expense of slower RAM speeds. ASUS does this as well, you often see ASUS gaming laptops shipped with 24GB of RAM but adding another 8GB stick bringing the total to 32GB solves this as they will all then run in DDR mode.

2) you need to get an SSD man, HDDs are super slow

3) Go to PC Settings > Privacy > scroll to the end till you see background apps then turn them all off except if it's something that sounds like its related to a driver (ie. Dolby Atmos)

Finally, what Antivirus are you using? Windows Defender is the heaviest out there if that's what you're running. See the latest AV-Comparatives performance test results:

McAfee has improved a lot since the past years where it was one of the heaviest now it's actually pretty light even from my own testing so the issue lies with firstly, your HDD, get an SSD man they're cheap right now and secondly what you can do for now is to ensure you disable the Windows Store startup apps like I have shown you, here is how my startup looks. The reason you see none of the garbage built in Windows Store apps is that I've uninstalled all that junk off using CCleaner from the Tools menu and only kept Calculator, Sticky Notes, and Xbox as the Xbox app is required for the Windows Game Mode to function properly:

Also @Jai Nagle Do you by any chance have iTunes or any Apple software installed? Reason I ask is because any time you install anything from Apple, it installs a spying app called Bonjour which you will see in your Control Panel > Programs & Features. That sends all your usage habits and stuff to Apple for their customer data collection which in turns cripples your computer like no tomorrow and also slows down your internet so make sure you uninstall Bonjour if you do have any Apple software installed. All your Apple software will continue to function properly although if you start iTunes, you might get a warning that Bonjour is missing, just hit OK and continue, everything will work just fine. Also make sure you check for Bonjour as it gets reinstalled every time you update your iTunes so you need to uninstall it with every update.

Just another reason why I won't touch Apple products by the way.

Yeah uninstall Bonjour and watch how snappy your computer becomes.

Old post but worth a read: PC (Windows) slows down by 90% while bonjour is installed

Just google Apple Bonjour and see what you get
